Akai EIE pro problem: crashes all the time

Hi

I have u weird problem with my AKAI EI pro, and nobody seems to able to help me so far.
The audio interface 'crashes' every 10 minutes: it makes a very harsh, distorted metalic noise and nearly no audio signal comes through anymore. When I just turn it on and off again everything is fine again for about 10 mins.
This problem doesn't only occur when working with Ableton, also when I'm just listening to music on itunes or watching youtube,...

I reinstalled the drivers but that didn't work. I'm working with a macbook pro btw. We have the same problem on my studio partner's macbook pro.
I returned to the store and brought my entire studio setup and showed them what was going on. They kept the card for a couple of days to test it (also with a macbook pro) and in 2 days they didn't have the problem once. They told me it is a problem with my laptop (which would be weird because we have the same problem on 2 different laptops) but they gave me a new EIE pro, just in case.
When I came home I hooked everything up and 10 mins later it crashed again.

Does anyone recognise this problem or do you know what I should do?

Apparantly not, I've got firmware version 1.0.0, the latest on their website is 1.0.4.
I downloaded the updater but that doesn't respond now.... I follow their instructions step by step and nothing happens.
