Hi there FP,

I was just wondering on the old sound module made by Emu called the Mo'Phatt. Does anyone still use it? Just wanted to know what kinda of sounds are on it and are those sounds still "fresh" sounding?

Here are sound Q's:

1. How many sounds are?

2. Are there any sounds that stand out as BEST? How about the BAD?

3. Do you still use it in your music today?

4. How much would you sell yours for?

5. How easy is it to use?

Help me out, I was thinking about getting one on Ebay but then I realized I have NEVER heard it before.

PEACE

I have one, i had the mp-7 drum machine of it also but sold that, now im on the mophatt rack. . . It has quite a few sounds LOL, not sure how many, it says 32 mB of sounds 64voice. . not sure what that means but there is quite a few in there, they sound great... at first i was really dissapointed in it, it sounded very weak. . . but then i got deep into the machine and started layering, and tweaking the hell out of even the weak sounds and saving them right in the machine. . the fx in it are pretty cool. I use it in every project, there is always some sound that can be tweaked un reconizable so its always usefull. Its really easy to use, i downloaded a manual and had to read it about twice, but its well layed out so its pretty much basic knowledge if you used hardware before. I wouldnt sell it LOL, well i might but i dont have paypal so i dont really care i'l just keep it. its always surprising me, i dont mess with the presets though i gotta make all my own sounds fresh.

<!-- BEGIN REVIEW -->The Mo'Phatt is a new and improved Urban Dance and Hip Hop synth based on the popular Planet Phatt module. Mo'Phatt is just that - more phatt - polyphony has been doubled to 64 voices. And there is an all-new 32 MB Hip Hop sound set called "Pure Phatt" and it is full of brand new and classic Hip Hop type sounds, from basses and synths to drum kits, scratches, vinyl effects and more! E-mu's exclusive SuperBEATs performance mode is here as well. Mo'Phatt also has up to 16 syncable arpeggiators, digital 12 pole resonant filters, 12 real-time controllers and more! Sounds can be tweaked and warped using its advanced synthesis architecture and effects processor. On the stage or in the studio, Mo'Phatt is the professional's choice for Hip Hop sounds and beats!

I recommend you going for the proteus software that has been released. they come with the presets of the mo phatt module. However, i would advise you not to purchase the mo phatt rack as you would be taken a step backwards in sound quality. I owned a mo phatt over a year ago before I sold it on. The sounds were quite cheap sounding and not of good quality. I only used some of the guitar samples and two leads. Like previously stated you can tweak the sounds, but I found it time consuming. You may also be better off getting the proteus 2500. Iv'e purchased one recently and it sounds great. Has everything from weird sounding synths and leads to atmospherics and the usual instrumentation such as real sounding strings and guitars. The percussions not bad either. But you may need to save up for one of these. Hope this helps.

I have a Proteus 2000 with the Phatt ROM and really like the sounds. Of course they aren't super duper nice & clean sounding like modern software synths, but they can easily work well. I wouldn't go for the Phatt unless it is a "turbo" model, which has more I/O and 4 ROM slots ("regular" Phatt has only 2).

Thanks guys. I wanted to use these older modules since everyone else seems to abandoned them for the Motifs, Phantoms, and Tritons of the world. Is it just a faze or have this module seen its day?

I havent got a Mo-Phatt, but i do have the Planet Phatt; and used to own the Orbit.

Like with everything a little bit older it lacks that "hit sound from a single key without working it" that you'll get from one of the big three.

I find with most synths (the Phatt included), I'll get some sounds that are very useable providing i take some time to work them & process them. Straight out of the box though, i must say the sounds are a little bit dated.

For the price, those older EMU modules are definitely worth investing in.
