Okay...my old mixer was a vestax pmc-26...now discontinued, it was a japanese manufactured rotary mixer with only master EQ's...So the search was on for a mixer that had all the features I wanted...those were the following...
1-the ability to mix in the phones (damn my neighbors!!!)
2-Isolaters!!!!! (thank you tricky)
3-the ability to check the level of the source i'm cueing up before i go live with it...(you'd be surprised what mixers out there dont do this)

Believe it or not...it was very difficult to find a mixer that did all of these things(even w/o isolaters)...even some of the "high end" vestax (pcv 27/a/o) did not do this...and I wanted to stick with a 10"

I decided on the ecler because I've heard great things about it...it was priced right and it had everything....it was a ***** to find though, i ended up purchasing it from calsound....(have the # if anyone needs it)

appearance and feel....honestly i thought it looked weird at first....its a slim mixer, and the channel faders and angled...this isn't even close to an issue i find it much easier to "Slide" my hands up rather then push them up...it just feels more linear and makes me feel like i've got a much more constant rate of change...
the VU meter is crystal clear....turn on the PFL and the VU reads the channel....turn off the PFL's and VU reads the mix...very very clear and smack dab in the center of the mixer...One thing i dont like about it is the fact that the EQ dials feel plasticy...probably because they are plastic...this isnt a big issue, but it'd be nice to have some metal knobs on this badboy so i dont have to be paranoid :) The most important thing to me is the channel fades though and they're perfect...very steay rate of increase and smooth as hell....rest of the switches are def up to par.... and easily layed out

SOUND!!! - The mixer blows my japanese made vestax away! Everything is crystal, and i mean crystal clear sounding....sounds just as good if not better then my mates djm-300....the isolaters are golden, you tap it and the sound is gone, just like that...no nasty click, no nothing...just gone...I forget exactly what the DB cut level is on the EQ's, but it cuts quite a bit...enough to get rid of that nasty "bass rubbin" sound by just turnin the bass dial down 1/10 of the way...and without making it sound "empty" like when you cut the bass considerably...The headphone amp is clear and loud..very loud (im using mdrv700's) I basically never turn it up more then 45-50%

misc stuff...like i said, the layout is simple and clean..how it should be....the angled faders are a pleasure to work with, and it takes up a minimal amount of space....everything about this mixer (with the exception of the plasticy feeling eq) is spot on, price included....to anyone contemplatin gettin a mixer in this range, grab this and you will not be disappointed.

me too

i was thinking of getting an ecler and now i am..:) but ime gettin a pro 30,, is there anything extra on it than the pro20?

Just bought one. Top mixer - I'll back up eveything Rhythm Addict says about the 20!
I think the main difference is the addition of a third channel ( with 3 points on the crossfader ).

ugh - I just took a look at the website and I don't like the design at all - what's up with those channel faders ?

The beauty is: its a dj mixer, not an ornament!
Seriously though, yeah it looks wierd, but works brilliantly!

I wouldn't call it a 'clean design' either. I easily prefer the Vestax design

I'd like to try the mixer though

yeah i got the PRO20 back in october, also from Calsound and i absolutely love it. No complaints whatsoever ! :) Just to add to the review, the x-faders are also very very smooth. Its a sweet mixer, I dont see why not many shops would carry it.

I agree...the channel faders look demented....but they are seriously a much nicer angle to work with...it gives your hand a "sweeping" motion instead of an unsteady "pushing" motion...in terms of cleanliness...i dont find it to be an issue..., most of the buttons/switches that i do not use often are nicely placed above the gains...so my hand isnt ever around there (unless i plugged another input in)

Mowza..its just like russ said, same exact mixer just with another channel and x-fader curve control :)

joeygill..im sure the xfader is just as smooth..hehe maybe i'll use it sometime
