So i checked the manual out but i don't have the product in front of me physically yet so i'm wondering how i would connect my KRK RP6 monitors and soundcard to this mixer. Here's a link to the mixer:

http://www.behringer.com/EN/Products/1002FX.aspx

I'm confused because i've been told to use the control room out's for my monitors and that is best. But I got XLR cables with the monitors and i thought those were the best quality and i want to take advantage of them, so wouldn't i have to connect my monitors to the 2 mic preamp spots through XLR cables?

My soundcard is a Creative Audigy 4 and here are the plug-in options i have on the back of it:

Jack or Connector
Description
1.
Line Out 3 jack (LIN_OUT3)
Connects to Front Center, Subwoofer, Side Left (only on 7.1 systems) and Rear Center (only for 6.1 systems) inputs on powered analog speakers or an external amplifier for audio output.
2.
Line Out 2 jack (LIN_OUT2)
Connects to Rear Left, Rear Right, and Side Right (only on 7.1 systems) inputs on powered analog speakers or an external amplifier for audio output.
3.
Line Out 1 jack (LIN_OUT1)
Connects to Front Left and Front Right inputs on powered analog speakers or an external amplifier for audio output. Also supports headphones.
4.
Microphone In jack (MIC_IN)
Connects to an external microphone for voice input.
5.
Line In jack (LIN_IN)
Connects to analog devices like music synthesizers and other line-level sources.
6.
Digital I/O jack (DIGITAL_IO)
Connects to external digital devices or digital speaker systems (6-channel or compressed AC-3 SPDIF output).
7.
Aux In connector (AUX_IN)

Connects to the analog output from a CD/DVD-ROM drive using an Analog CD audio cable (available separately).

So i'm assuming i would use the line in input on the soundcard correct? If so where do i connect that on the mixer and what capable would I need? Would it be a a red and white RCA to single line in cable? I tried checking it out on my own but i'm still unsure and would appreciate some help before i buy the product. Please and thank you.

from what i can see by looking at pics online you would use a jack to phono cable to go from your audigy 4 headphone to mixer tape in. then use 2 x TRS to XLR cables to power the monitors from the mixer (main or ctrl room outputs to XLR on monitors) pictured below.

the xlr end might be either the male or female connection but think the one i pictured is correct

Yeah they are the cables you want. Use the Ctrl Room Outs on the mixer.

The ins/outs on that card are stereo. So connect 'line out 1' on the card to 'tape in' on the mixer. That'll give you audio from the PC.

Then connect 'tape out' to 'Line in' on the soundcard. Make sure the 'tape to mix' button is not pressed in, and the 'tape to control room' is. That way anything you have plugged in to the mixers inputs will go to the computer, but the audio from the pc won't.

you'll need two of these to connect to the soundcard...

Can i plug my monitors into this mixer with XLR cables into the mic preamp slots? I already have two XLR cables and would like to make use of them.

Can't I just use XLR to XLR? Why does it have to be XLR to TRS?

No, the mic preamp inputs are inputs. You can plug them into Ctrl Room Out or Main Out. That's it.

Also, XLR connections aren't of "better quality" than anything else.

Why do you need a mixer?

Good question, here's my situation.

I'm looking for connectivity basically, so i can plug my monitors with something other than RCA to the soundcard because it's close to my desktop and i'm getting a lot of noise coming out of the monitors. So i want to use XLR or TRS to connect my monitors, that's my main priority. My soundcard already does 24/96 so it's high quality and i don't really want to by pass it by using a soundcard in an audio interface which may not be as good as the one i have now. So i just figured since i already have a good soundcard i would just get a mixer and then use it for it's connections and what not. But even if i use trs cables from monitor to mixer, if i'm connecting the mixer to computer with an RCA or line out, it would still go back to unbalanced signal right? Or would it still be balanced?

I also don't do any recording, atleast not yet. And i use the mixer in my DAW already which i'm good with. So with that said what do you guys think is my best option. Audio interface or mixer?

You don't need a mixer, what you need to do is to identify the source of the noise.

A mixer was an essential bit of home studio gear back in the 90's back when they were used for mixing multiple channels to a single track, these days we have such large track counts that the idea is somewhat redundant. Some people tend to view mixers more as an infrastructure solution for hardware routing, but with enough inputs and outputs on an audio interface this idea is also slightly redundant.

My soundcard already does 24/96 so it's high quality

This has little to do with quality - basically every built-in chip does 24/96 these days. How well it does it isn't necessarily something you can read from the specs.

Anyway, if there's noise coming from the computer, the mixer won't stop it - in the worst case scenario you'll just get a bit more of that from the cheapo mixer. Balanced connections are less prone to interference, but won't suppress any noise that's already there.

Ya i've now come to the conclusion that a mixer is pretty much useless for me considering I can do all my mixing on software and DAW's.

I found a fast track pro being sold locally for $100 brand new, that's an amazing deal so I'm gonna jump on it. I could use the connections in the future anyway and I'll Atleast be able to hook up the monitors with TRS cables. Hopefully that will help with the noise, I can't imagine what else it could be other than the RCA cables and the proximity of my monitors to my computer. Because thier brand new and its a pretty common setup but I haven't heard of many other people having issues so I don't know what else it could possibly be.

But if the issue is interference won't getting cables that are less absorbent to interference reduce the noise technically?

What else could it be other than interference from cables and proximity to other electrical devices such as a computer or powerbar. I have a good Belkin pure av surge protector power bar and those are supposed to help eliminate dirty electricity.

I don't hear it with the monitors set at -30 volume, but when I bring them up to regular levels like -6 volume I really hear the electrical hissing. Especially when the computer main volume is up and no sound is being played. I can't hear it when music is being played at 'knockin' levels unless I put my ear beside the monitor. Is this normal?

Go into windows mixer (down by the clock) and make sure the mic/line inputs are muted, these are probably causing the noise.

Get the fast track pro anyway, its worth it just so you can control the monitor levels from one knob on the front (it sounds like you're using the knobs on the back of the monitors).

And I'll just add that I have the RP8s and they are dead silent no matter how loud I have my levels set.

Just to update yall. I got the monitors hooked up to the fast track pro using Nuetrik balanced TRS cables and it sounds flawless. It got rid of the hissing noise completely and sound clear. Those RCA cables were just downright shitty and I can vouch for the difference in the cables.

Also the fast track pro is incredibly clear, i was surprised considering i already had a good sound card. But the quality improved running it through this audio interface. Must be the AD convertor on it, but i guess this was intented for music compared to my Creative Audigy card.

So, I assume I will use the correct input on the sound card right? If so, I connect to the mixer, what power would I need? Is AA single red and white RCA cable do? I tried to check myself, but I'm still not sure and want some help, before I purchase. Please and thank you.
