Did a search and it didnt really tell me what i was looking for, did a google search and same thing came up..... How do you collab with another producer that is long distance? Do the two producers have to have the same VSTs? If not how do I send him a track if we dont have the same vsts? How do you usually package an flp file (fl Studio) and send it to them so they can work on the track, and have everything they need? Also what is your process for collabing with another producer? How do you decide who des what? or do you jus go for it? Any help appreciated

well you can send the midi files and let the other producer load it into their program and decide what sounds will go for it. Or you can track the wave files out and go from there. Most people dont have the same sounds. As far as drums you can send the flp and the drums you used into one folder.

Best way to do it IMO is to send the track-outs, basically export each pattern of each instrument/sample into a wav file.

and when tracking out, track out as mono unless there is stereo information in the signal - why waste file size (doubles the file size to have non-existent stereo information inn the file) and your internet connections bandwidth (and theirs) to send redundant information?

Sometimes you can get away with sending an mp3 stereo submix of what you have ato someone who is going to create/play specific parts for the track - they will send you back the mono or stereo wav stems (full length of the song) for you to load into your project.

Also remember that not everyone has access to fl either by choice or otherwise, so sending your audio files as full length tracks is insurance against this.

Sharing MIDI files is ok, but you have to accept that you may not get back what you sent out in the first place, so learning how to maintain a versioning scheme is an important part of this type of collaboration.....
