Kanye West was definatley one of my biggest influences when he was making his own beats seriously go on wikipedia and look up his albums its all co produced with jeff bhasker i think he just puts his name on everything this really is what goes on in the industry

Everybody knows he doesn't make the beat to everything he puts out
But he'll have his hand in every single thing and he likes to add shit

you can do something as simple as arrange someone's loops and you'd instantly be the co-producer.

Kanye directs it the majority of the time and give final approval on the track/song. He's been using Ken Lewis as co-producer for years, along with Jeff Bhasker more recently. But you can hear the 808s and heartbreaks sound in this track Bhasker produced.

But the casual fan thinks Kanye does this all by himself.

Once you get to a certain point you don't make music all by yourself. i don't understand this concept where someone is a lesser producer because he collaborates with other musicians. Most forms of music work this way. I like jam session music.

i agree i like jam session music myself i didnt mean it in that way its just when are we gonna see a kanye production credit where it s just kanye and nobody else like late registration days

Late Registration was mostly Jon Brion. Kanye said early that he didn't have any intention of being that kind of producer. You won't hear much College Dropout Kanye anymore ever. Hell even on College Dropout Ken Lewis replayed a lot of samples like All Falls Down which was a Lauryn Hill sample that Ken replayed. I prefer the original version that leaked with the Lauryn sample. Lauryn hated it and gave the no go apparently.

its really sad. Kanye stop making beats and making clothes.
Thats why i like Primo all the times. He just focused on beat making for long time.

Kanye's matured a lot more as a producer. Though I like his older stuff more, I think he's a lot more creative now and I agree with the "director" comparison. He's too busy now to sit in a room and make beats all day like he was when he trying to get on. He has a team and it's hard to argue with the results.

I think somehow people got the idea that people are making music all on their own.

It's not that way, it never has been, and it never will be.

If you wanna get to the next level that will eventually involve collaborating.

If you don't agree with that, you'd better be a genius among geniuses.

i never really thought he did all that stuff by himself. i mean c'mon, after college dropout, the music got way bigger in terms of musical compositions. but thats doesn't make him any less of a producer, did you see how many people participated in stevie wonder's songs in the key of life?........

Kanye is a record producer...

A record producer is an individual working within the music industry, whose job is to oversee and manage the recording (i.e. "production") of an artist's music. A producer has many roles that may include, but are not limited to, gathering ideas for the project, selecting songs and/or musicians, coaching the artist and musicians in the studio, controlling the recording sessions, and supervising the entire process through mixing and mastering. Producers also often take on a wider entrepreneurial role, with responsibility for the budget, schedules, and negotiations.

So this is an interesting subject and I have a related question for yall:

What's the line between a session musician (or contributing musician) and a co-producer??? Is is simply related to the contractual agreement between the parties?

So, for example, if I hire a bassist in a "work for hire" agreement (that we agree to in advance) to write and record a bassline for me, he is a contributing musician, but if we don't agree to WFH in advance, since he composed the bassline, he is considered a co-producer? Yes?
