Kanye West Vs Pharrell (The Neptunes) Who is the Hip Hop Genius?

Since the short film dropped yesterday there has been alot of talk about Kanye being the hip hop genius. I was wondering what you guys (Producers) thought?

I always viewed Pharrell as the biggest innovator of our day. He changed my perception of how music can be done in general. The whole N.e.r.d./Kelis sound is really some next level stuff. Also he influence fashion BIG time with the whole BBC ,ice cream, Nigo, Bathing Ape, Japanese fashion.

Kanye has always had that raw hip hop sound. On Late registration he took things to the next level with Jon Brion. He showed that fusing other elements into hip hop create great results. Also him Jeff Bhasker and Mr. Hudson created that 808s and heartbreaks erie spaced out sound......But i cant really say im too found of what im hearing so far for the next album. good beats, good rhymes but it doesnt really "connect" with me at all like the older stuff did.



So what do you think? Who is the Truest Genius/Artistic innovator?

LOL couldn't you pick doper artists? But if I really must choose, Kanye gets my vote. Neptunes make some weird ass music, so does Kanye sometimes, but yeah, Neptunes are totally strange.
 
I'll choose Kanye over the Neptunes anyday. Kanye does more sampling and he knows how to make dope beats and make that real hip hop sound (when he wants) haha

I'm not sure if I would consider either a genius or a true artist.

However; I will say both are really talented people who have managed to capitalize on those talents. :cheers:
 
at least pharrell can sing and play

How about...appreciate them both for what they are and what they have done?
 
Gotta go with the Neptunes on this one. I've been listening to a lot of instrumentals lately for my djing and I got to say the Neptunes have made some of the most catchiest melodies I've ever heard.

I love 'em both, but I think that's unfair to Pharrell. You can say that Kanye without all of his resources is just " another beatmaker. " As far as chopping is concerned.. he's no Alchemist, Premier, Dilla, etc. But his strength is knowing how to put things together. They're (Kanye & Pharrell) both dope though in my opinion.

Thats kinda ironic since Kanye has at least 6 "Chad's" working with him that im aware of, LOL....

Funny the single featured Kanye. Number 1...Classic. She might not be ish to you but she's the hit to me.

P is dope nonetheless.
