Lyric Break Down: Tyrese - Lately

Song came out when I was 13 and I sung it at a talent show my 9th grade year. It's a crucial song. Kind of leads me to wonder where R&B fell off with SOME ARTIST. I broke the song structure down and analyzed each part. But here's what concerned me.

The subject is telling his love interest that he loves her even though sometimes he forgets... but some parts just don't go in my opinion. The yellow parts are the lyrics that I feel don't make sense in terms of the song

I tend to over analyze things when it comes to writing songs. So best believe I bust my ass when writing my own. But it's truly easier to just sing melodies and let the words follow. It's not so much structure where it's logic for me. Things have to make logical sense for me. But in song writing things of the heart tend to be less logical. Or often there is room for things like the above song. It's a great song. I love it. I just happened to notice the parts sounded off in context. I like to write songs that if I wanted to ... I could talk them out and pull a female. I just can't hear this song being talked out with out an awkward pause occurred. I feel like they was just trying to get it done and did not fully think about the yellow parts. If they did the song would have made more sense where needed.

Even though that part could have been done better, it shows u that it's the hook that makes the song...every song.


That's why it's calle THE HOOK. Because it's the part that hooks the listener.
