Which one is better? My understanding is that the R3 is the microKorg and some. Any comments?

They are based off of different engines. The MicroKorg is an MS2000 slimmed down into a small package. The R3 is Korg's Radias engine. If you like the sound of the MicroKorg, get an MS2000. The interface and build quality are a lot nicer. I'm not a huge fan of either synth though.

I may be in the market for another synth. From playing with them briefly, I liked the R3 better. So Array, what is your likings...VA and Analog.

In which price range? :D

Well preferable, like 1500 or less. I already have a Studio Electronics ATC-X with quad filter system, Motif XS6, Fantom XR, MPC 2500, EMU MP-7.

I thought about getting a polysynth, VA or Analog. My main choices so far are between Prophet 08, Micron or Ion, R3, Microkorg XL(doubt it though), Blofeld, Virus TI Snow(tabletop) version.

I read the reviews, watched videos and than decided on the micron.....after a month i sold it. Too much menu diving killed it for me...Later on down the line I picked up the microkorg and I gotta say i love it. It sounds comparable and it flowed better *for me*. The only downside (to me)...small keys, but I'm cool with that. After my experience all I can say is: try to test each of them out for yourself and then make the call.

yeah, the microkorg's keys suck. I have played it, but just like the R3 better overall...the layout, etc. I always hear how dope the micron is, but i have messed with it and it does take some menu diving. I may end up jumping on a Ion when one comes up, or just go analog...or JP 8000, but who knows....my mind changes quite a few times before settling in on something.

lifehiphop,

The R3 has a better feature set, bigger keys (easier to play) and built in USB-MIDI interface to hook up to your computer. No contest, get the R3.

i've had the xl i'm looking at either the r3 or x50. but comparing the xl to the r3, r3 hands down.

A Korg R3 was my first synth. The radias engine is nice, but the library/editor software it comes with is the most ass-backwards abomination I've seen before. It's doable to make good sounds with the software, but it just takes a lot of patience.
