what up.

I am currently using a Casio WK1300 as my MIDI controller. And it works well. Really no need to get a new one. BUT, I was thinking. (always dangerous, hehe) What's the difference between a cheapo controller and an expensive one? Why would anyone want to get a $1234 controller when a $99 one is plenty useful? I know there's stuff like pitch bend and mod wheels. and ribbon controllers too. But you can get those on cheaper ones too. What's the deal?
thanks

get a cheap 99 dollars one... unless you play piano really well and can't stand light keys. the CMK149 (translucid blue, transmits on Channel 1, velocity etc..) will work fine.

I used to have an expensive keyboard (SL880 Fatar) as I do play piano (classical) for years and I can appreciate hammers mechanism... but right now (i moved from my country) I have a cheap one and it works fine for what I need at the moment.

As I said, the Fatar CMK149 costs 99 dollars and will be just fine. The mechanism is good quality, and it transmits a clean signal to your computer/midi devices.

good luck

well, i don't need a new one... my casio works great... I was just wondering why would you ever need a more expensive one? what's it got that's so great?
thanks

that's good.

Let me answer to your last question:
a more expensive controller gives you the feeling that you are touching a real piano, with a different sensitivity than a regular light keys or mini keys keyboard. You have more space (88 notes) to express yourself etc.. its more luxurious. Some people need a superior controller to feel good composing on electronic machines.
