Does anyone have a subscription to any magazines and why did you choose that particular one?,
also does anyone know any web material that gives a brief description of some of them, there seem to be so many im having trouble trying to look at them all and i want to get a subscription to the most appropriate one and keep myself up to date,

I aint really just getting started but i couldnt see where else to put this really

(by the way well done to mano and the team for the large number of new forums and layout, first time i seen it and its great, keep up the good work everyone)

I subscribe to SoundonSound. The best magazine imho.

Scratch is kinda a production magazine but is alo includes djing and some rappers and I get it whenever there is a new one. Scrtach is talks about hip hop and no other genres(that ive seen). The other one I read is remix. It doesn't focus on one genre, but just talks about production with many different producers. Out of the 2 of those I like scratch better, but I have to check out soundonsound b/c I havent red one yet

I've subscribed to Remix, Tape Op and EQ Magazine, and regularly read Mix (a musician's "People magazine"), Future Producers and Sound on Sound (which mainly contains gear review, kinda boring). I occasionally read the Knowledge Mag, which is a mag specialized on DnB (this month's 10 year anniversary edition is spectacular!). Magazines I hate are Electronic Musician, Computer Recording, and Recording. They are low-level, more suited for beginners.

P.S.: everyone serious about learning recording techniques should have a subscription of Tape Op. Its a magazine from pros for pros, and subscription is free:

i like scratch that's the only one i get right now, i'm also lookin around for some new ones to subscribe, and thanks for the info on that tape op homey i subscribed so i'll check it out when it comes!

Keyboard,EQ and Scratch. Keyboard has the best product reviews hands down. I always get a great tip or two from EQ. Scratch has the best producer(hiphop) interviews i've seen. I also try to get EQ's spinoff annual mag Virtual Musician it has listings of all the software and sample libraries that are out.

I also try to get a few of the UK mags they're about 15.50 US and have titles like "Computer Music" and will sometimes even focus on one software title like "Reason" or a specific soft synth "Halion" they're the bigger mags that always come with CD's.

I've been reading it since about 1994. I read everything to begin with. I read reviews of $10,000 EQs & preamps before i even knew what they did. Read everything you can & if you persist and get past the initial jargon - it suddenly gets a lot easier.

Alternatively - try Futuremusic or Computermusic magazines. They're OK as a starting point - although i don't really trust their gear suggestions too much.
