What kind of keys are used in the beat not talking about the notes but like what type of keys...rhodes or whatever it is.

yep, rhodes. Mabye put alittle distortion on it to give it some grime.

I third that...Rhodes w/overdrive or distortion

true true its a rhodes for sure,.but.....it sounds like a sampled rhodes played from,.a module or,...otherkeyboard.either way,...you can never go wrong with a rhodes.anything.

I'd use something like Amplitube as opposed to a straight distortion or overdrive so you have the speaker sim as well...

It's a rhodes but it sounds like there's a chorus on it too to give it that "cosmic" effect. They (Neptunes) have used this sound a lot as single line melodies. Check out Mase's "Lookin' at Me" and Harlem World's "One Big Fiesta" (another badass beat). They use it on those too.

yeah, I was playing around, and I find that someting like PSP vintage warmer can work and grime up the rhodes pretty well too.

The PSP plugins are fantastic, they had the MixSaturator on the computers at my old university and they were soooo cool!

If only they weren't so expensive!

Wanna remix this song? Rent (for the love of god DO NOT BUY) The Sylvvester Stallone Movies "Stop Or My Mom Will Shoot" the music in the opening credits just HAS to be where he sampled it from, I watched it a few time back when i was a tv watcher (disconnected my cable, still get about ten channels through the antenna)and I'm positive that he sampled the main piano riff from the opening credits. Man, I always thought nelly sucked, but sampling from stop or my mom will shoot? Just plain hillarious.

hello,
actually no the its a rhodes patch taken straight from the Korg Triton. I'm playing it right now, they added a bit of distortion to the preset, but its the same one.
anyways, by any chance does anyone know the chords to that song?

I haven't heard the opening credit music but I don't think they sampled (as in a direct copy) anything. They may have pulled their idea from that (interpolated maybe) but I've rarely heard The Neptunes sample anything. The only obvious samples I've heard from them are on Nas' "Flyest" (Charlie's Angels Soundtrack) and an old Clipse track, "The Funeral".

i can't remember the chord structure to that song cause i ain't heard it since last year. i thought that rhodes comes from the motif, but maybe it is the triton. both those keyboards have about 10 rhodes patches each anyway. and no, the neptunes never sampled that song. it's actually a remix of this old song by Chuck Brown (known in DC as the godfather of gogo) called 'Bustin Loose'. do search search and download it or listen to a stream. i think it's also on that old Richard Pryor movie soundtrack called 'Bustin Loose.' But, i'm not sure. basically, the neptunes just inverted the original chords of that song.

I don't know. I just listened to a sample of "Bustin' Loose". I think Nelly just borrowed Chuck B.'s lyrics ("I feel like bustin' loose...). "Hot in Herre"'s progression sounds nothing like the original sample I just heard.

Someone find this movie and listen, let me know that I'm not crazy :P
