I am considering buying some Numark Pro TT-2's next week. I just want to know how good they are? Are they heay enough to absorb vibrations? Is the platter solid? How well do they compare to the Technics? Overall, I want a review of the decks and how well they perform and whether any of you have had problems using them?

Thanks,

I have a Numark TT-2 at home, it's really good actually. Personaly I think it's as good as/better than the Technics 12xx. When it comes to dampening vibrations it's definately better than the 1200, you can smack the turntable quite hard before it begins to skip. When it comes to vibrations from music thats no problem whatsoever since there is a nice distorsion filter in them so thats no problem. The platter is also very nice i'd say just as the 1200 but i don't have enough time on one of those to be totally sure about that. Sound is just superb and the pitch is really smooth and nice the platter responds immediatley and the motor is really powerfull.

Can't think of anything else... It's just plain and simple very good...

I've used the Pro TT-2 and I think they are wonderful tables. As I've said before I think they are actually under rated however I wouldnt go as far as to say they are better than Technics. In my opinion, the only table moving in on the Techs are the Vestax, there are however some VERY good CHEAPER THAN TECHNICS alternatives. While the Vestax are not cheaper the Numarks, however, are. GREAT table for the money. I think I posted before that I saw a MINT pair going for $360 (for both) and that came with two Stanton Diskmasters...Not bad..

I got a pair of TT2's just before xmas and it's a case of good and bad. If you want a straight comparison with 1200/10s then the Numarks have a very sturdier platter (I have vinyl that jumps on everyone elses decks but not mine :)) and require less physical effort to speed up or slow down the record with your hand. This can be a good thing if you are used to belt drives but is hard to master if you learnt on technics.
The big downer is that every so often you get glitches in the pitch (I don't know if mine are faulty) and the record sounds as if it is speeding up/ slowing down for a fraction of a second.
The display isn't actually much help even if it does look good but the reverse mode is good for messing with peoples heads. If I were buying decks now I would try and find a decent deal on some 1200s (hurry the prices are going through the roof since 1200/10s have ceased production), I have spent quite a bit of time on 1200s, TT2s, Vestax pdxA1s (horrible!), and my trusty old KAMs and the technics win (just). If you are planning on playing out at some point, chances are you'll end up using technics so you should get used to them anyway.
Whatever you end up getting, it is worth investing in some decent carts - ortofon concordes take some beating and really do make a difference.
Cheers.

Hey fatlorette, I wanted to say: welcome to onlineDJ.com
Hope you will enjoy the community a lot!
take care

Fatlorette, correct me if I'm wrong but it seems you posted that 1200's are out of production. Unless there has been some major declaration by the Panasonic people that 1200s are discontinued, you are wrong. I know there has been rumors that they would stop production, but that has been a rumor for years. When last I spoke to a Panasonic/Technics merchandise rep they emphaticaly denied this. Just wondering if there is a real source to your claim. If there is please let me know...Thanks

I don't think production of the 1200 is gonna stop, esp. with the M4 being released in Japan. Or something.

I hope everyone is right and technics aren't going out of production. I think there is a lesson to be learnt here: don't be suckered by sales staff who are trying to get you to buy stuff!!!!!!!! I was also told that TT2s were going up in price.
A thousand apologies.
Cheers.

Pro Sound and lighting rated the TT2's the 3rd best table of 2000. Behind the M3D and the MK2. Vestax however are horrible in my opinion. With there raised platter, and straight arm they make terrible tables. Pro Sound agreed with me and didnt even put them in the top 10. I really dont like vestax tables and if I didnt have Technics the TT2's are what I would turn to. I have played on them several times, and they feel really nice.

Have you ever used the PDX2000? IMHO, the PDX2000 beats out the SL-1200 for scratching. The straight tonearm is there for a reason: more leverage. It's an old debate though, so I'm not going to milk it. I'm really inclined to distrust any kind of top 10 list that's not purely scientific because people will always be biased towards certain brands and tastes. Where's the criterion for the list? As far as I know, the whole thing could be based on opinion, not fact, which does no justice to any table. Another problem I have is that not every piece of equipment is designed with the same idea in mind. It's like making a list of the 10 best mixers ever. Do you think a trance DJ would put scratch mixers in the top ten? If the list you found is scientific and for house/trance/etc. DJ's, then I'm inclined to agree. However, the only opinion I'm inclined to trust is my own.

I own a pair of Numark TT-1+'s and one of my turntables had a similar problem, and I contacted Numark and one of their reps said that most likely it was a defect in one of the chips on the board.

I sent them back to the dealer (the other one had a different problem that I won't go in to) and got a new pair. They seem to be working fine now.

This chip problem seems to be a fairly common problem. Another user on a different board also mentioned having the same problem.

If they are under warranty, definately send them to get serviced because they are definately not supposed to do that and it will make beatmatching a pain.

Anyway, hope that helps.

Cheers enkorat. I have been meening to get round to sorting it out but have been kind of busy and couldn't bear the thought of spending any more time deckless. Numark shall be getting a piece of my mind!!

Hey all, I too have been very impressed with the Numark TT2s, but have also got the pitch glitches. I mailed Numark about this, and got an instant reply that they needed servicing. That was where the problems started, I mailed someone at Numark US HQ to find how to get them serviced ,and was told that they would have to contact someone for me as I live in the UK. I had to keep chasing up, and it wasn't until TWO AND A HALF months later that they finally got back to me with the UK servicing phone number. I gave them a call and they advised me that this was a very rare problem, and it was probably a Mobile phone causing the probs. I have since put my decks on a surge protected extension lead, and have relocated them about 4 times but still have the same probs. Now I have this info as backup I'l give them another call to get it sorted.
I would advise any one who is impressed by the TT2 features to get a pair, but be prepared for poor after-sales help by Numark themselves. Perhaps they should get this investigated and start testing the decks before they send them out for the public, or at least acknowledge that this is a known problem

Be advised that the speed glitches problem seems to be relatively common. The problem has been referenced about six or seven times already by other owners of tt-1s and tt-2s on this board and a few others. Again, it has nothing to do with wireless phones or electrical isolation if the problem is consistant and repeating.

You may want to email numarks technical support directly and then get an Return Authorization number.

Oh, and make sure that they pay for shipping as well. My problems with my tt's also took 2 months to take care of (I ended up getting a brand new pair from my dealer) but I still had to pay about $100 extra in shipping. The good news is that the tables I now have haven't once shown the problem, wireless phone ringing and Calfornian rolling blackouts and all...

Respect
