I'm very guilty of underestimating the quality of the Scream 4 sound destruction unit in Reason.
Don't ask why... but it took me a long time to realize that this thing is one of the best effects processors i've ever used lol. Before I really understood what it was, I would just throw it on sounds sometimes to get that "overdrive" effect. But now i'm really realizing what it can do and i have to admit.. i wish they sold it separately so I could use it as a VST. lol
Is there anything out there that can really touch it for what it does?
I can throw it on a guitar and get a great fuzz sound or overdrive... i can completely destroy a sound... EQ the effect... man this thing is unbelievable lol. It's amazing how you can go so long not realizing when you have something great.

Like.. i composed a song last night.. and my boy was like "yo.. u should sample some soldiers marching and put it in there, u know.. like the "left, right, left right" type march". I searched my hard-drive and realized I actually don't have that sound in my library. So I actually created the sound w/ 2 NNXTs, one loaded w/ a kick, the other w/ a clap.. and two Scream boxes... and it sounds damn good after compressing it.

aiight... that's it... i just needed to comment on this. What a great effects box.

yeah it's one of the few things in reason i'd like to get if props offered it up as a vst (the other being the malstrom and the rv7000). i'm using the d16 fx boxes to try and replicate my beloved scream at the moment.

yep, screams a beast, one of the reasons i still use reason

The scream is killer. You wanna make your bass nice and thick. Set it to tape with knob1 and knob2 both set to about 12 o'clock and then turn on the Body fx and turn the reso to 9 o'clock, scale to 2 o'clock, auto all the way down and the type to D.

man I've had Reason for over a year and havent even felt the surface of the ish....its basically catching dust on my computer...i do know how deep I can get with it tho...this is what happens when you use more than 1 DAW...im about to fucc wit it heavy starting today tho...getting tired of Logic and Pro Tools finally

Thanks for the tip! What preset do you use as your starting point? half inch?

There is ton of good distortion effects in the VST world. Most DAWS nowadays comes with good distortion effects. Scream is great though because it is easy to use.

Ableton Live comes with the Saturator, Tube, and Redux, and Overdrive.

Sonar comes with a lot as well Tape Sim, Guitar Rig LE, and Tube 64.

A great VST I like is Izotope Trash because it is highly tweakable

I don't use any presets for the Scream because for distortion the effect depends heavily on the input sound.

But I like the tape and the digital algorithm the best.
