I usually put one either 1/8 before the second snare, or 1/8 after the second snare (exactly between second snare and start of the next bar). It also sounds nice when you put them both 1/8 before first snare and 1/8 before second snare. Also, when I do trap/south kind of beat, putting open hat right after second snare (1/16 distance) sounds both good and different

Ive been working on get this to sound good aswell!

I don't really use Open Hi-Hats anymore... Only if I think the beat is missin' somethin'.

At the end of each bar is sort of standard but mixing it up is what it's all about so throw one in anywhere that sounds good.

Many possibilities... some different kind of patternse here. - is closed hh, o is open, all 1/8 notes:

-o--o---
--o-----
---o-o--
-o--o--o
-o-o---o
o--o---o

More common patterns naturally are usable more often. Those just for some experimenting. However to get some true depth to the beats, play with 1/16 notes. If you want it to still sound like traditional hip-hop, just make like two 1/16 notes per bar. Like

- - - o- - - - -
--o - - - - - -
- -o - - - - - -
- - - - - o -- o

For me it depends on the beat im working on. I like to switch it up alot. but I mostly put the open hi hat right after the second snare hit. Then I might put another right after that next kick after that.

A open-hat can be placed quite about anywhere like any percussion sound. You can hear it sometimes playing together with a kick, or a snare. Or right before a snare/clap sound. There's no limit to this.
