Pedal Sustain Problem

Hey FP, I ran into a problem when I picked up a digital piano. I have a Yamaha P200 Digital Stage Piano. I have a sustain pedal plugged into the the sustain input on the back panel. Now, whenever I press a key without holding down the sustain pedal, it will automatically sustain the note. When I do hold down the sustain pedal, it does the opposite of what it should be doing-it makes a dry unsustained note.

When I unplugged the sustain pedal from the back panel, it played normally without sustain. Could it be my sustain pedal that's giving me problems? I've used it on other keyboards/midi controllers such as a Casio and my M-Audio Axiom 49 without any problems like this.

BTW, I'm using an M-Audio SP2 sustain pedal.

Does anyone know what's going on? Thanks in advance .

The pedal is the wrong polarity. Your YP200 might have the capability of switching the polarity somehow ... that would solve your problem, as would buying Yamaha pedal.

Hey, thanks for replying so quickly. I'm gonna try to mess with the settings to see if it'll change anything. I might just have to pick up a Yamaha pedal as you said.

Sustain pedals, unfortunately, come in two flavours, one where the switch is on when the pedal is depressed, and ones where it is normally on but goes off when the pedal is depressed. You have the wrong flavour for your keyboard. Some - I think the SP2 is one, can be switched between the two flavors. Look for a small switch on the pedal labelled something like "polarity" or "normally-on/normally-of", and switch it and it should work normally.
