I was wondering how people on the board set up their rigs. I started out with turntables in battle position when I was learning, and even after I got a 19" mixer and spent most of my time beatmatching, I kept my turntables in battle position. The only time I ever have one in the normal style is when I have three decks set up, and I put the third in front of the mixer between the other two decks. What positions do you guys have tables in and why?

...also, how do you guys have mixers set up? I could not find much on this when I searched either. When I mix, I just have the two faders farthest right as phono 1 and 2, and when I scratch, I reverse the input faders so the left table is the right channel and so forth...

I have them in battle position..
not cuz i battle or anything..its just the tonearm always is gettin in my way..and i cant stand having the records so far away from the mixer..even if it is 2 inches..

PLUS it looks cool! :p

i dont get the mixer question..lol
i have mine set up regular

I have the tables set up in the normal fashion (long side to me) because I mix and the pitch fader is easier to use when it's close to me. As far as the mixer question goes... I'm not totally sure what you mean either but, I don't have a reverse switch on my xfader so I don't use it (or see the need to) I don't really ever use the crossfader.

As far as the mixer goes, I was wondering if people use hampster, reverse inputs and stuff like that on two channel mixers. On multi channel mixers, I was wondering if people use inputs closest to the turntables, or closed to mixer controls or what. Now that I am thinking about it, I am not sure of a clear way to ask it. Oh well. Hopefully someone will be able to decipher my babble...

i keep all my turntables battle style (or as one DJ in Kentucky put it, "ghetto style"). i can't see why anyone would have them "regular" style, since you are so much more likely to bump the tonearm or power switch while backcueing and scratching... plus it keeps the amount of space taken up by the deck to a smaller area... but to each his own i guess. ;)

as for what faders i assign my decks to, i actually change it from time to time to keep myself on my toes.

hahaha it's not an animal! :D

via Rane:
Hamster switch DJ Mixers. A control found on professional DJ performance mixers that reverses fader action. For example, if a fader normally is off at the bottom of its travel and on at the top of its travel, then activating the hamster switch reverses this, so off is now at the top and on is at the bottom of travel, or alternatively, it swaps left for right in horizontally mounted faders. Used to create the most comfortable (and fastest) fader access when using either turntable, and to accommodate left-handed and right-handed performers. Credited to, and named after, one of the original scratch-style crews named The BulletProof Scratch Hamsters.

LoL we get what HAMPSTER means..

just wasnt sure of what he was getting at with that question..

but i understand know..

i do everything normal..upfaders..non-hampster..the whole 9

Actually, the switch and the animal are spelled the same: hamster. Just a public service announcement from the a$$holes in the English department. :p :D

i keep mine normal(i guess) style. i had them battle style for about a month just because i had never played on decks like that and figured i should get used to it.... it does take more room but seeing as i don't scratch and my back cueing doesn't get totally out of control i have no problem with hitting the tonearms while backcueing....

Sorry about the dumbass mispelling. I do not check what I write on here very closely, and I am sure that I have been spelling hamster the wrong way for quite a long time.
I guess that you learn (or relearn something for probably the hundredth time) every day. Thanks for looking out...

setup 1. 3 technics next to each other with a stanton 19 mixer placed below them and eq killers
setup2. 2 pdx2k battle style with a mixer im not proud of in a battle coffin

*hint to david-lee* i need a pmc07 :D

Tulip,

I love your sig. It's from 'Enter the Dragon' I've also heard it sampled in a trance song

mine were in battle position but in normal now. It makes me feel like a poser when it's set up battle style w/ a scratch mixer when most of the time i beat mix and spin house. But battle can be fun as long ppl don't laugh at me.

I have my left deck in battle, and my middle and right decks normal. I also have my vodka with lemonade, and curry with Naan bread.
