Is there a way i can register register the tag that i use on my beats so that nobody can try to copy it and take credit for my work? if so how do i go about doin it?

Copyright the beat, then there is no need to tag.

One beat or twenty, the price is the same for ONE CD.

Or you can spend a bunch per track.

No need to do the tag, they're annoying and pointless, cuz if someone wants to take your beat, they will, or they'll interpolate the track.

Just copyright.

Great advice! A&R's dont like producer tags because if an artist likes the beat they are going to demo the track, but if you have your producer tag all through the track you can miss that opportunity to get your track sold.

Just make sure the Tags match the beat. A lot of famous producers do that still. Ever heard "radio killa"? Tag.

I don't really post a lot of work on the internet, but I still have yet to put a tag on since like 04, six years ago.

Tags are just annoying, imo, and I also don't just hand people a track unless we've worked details. Half the time I don't charge for beats, sometimes I do, all depends on the project, skills and budget.

Also, I trade a lot, seems to work better, but you just have to make sure you get your trade up front or at the same time they get the beat.

I've been jacked a few times that I know of, and I'm sure many more I don't. Big deal. I call it flattery, but biting is the biggest form of it. Someone jacks your track, just make sure you have it copyright-en.

Also, it comes down to personal pref. Even having a track online with no download, someone can use the internal mixer on the soundcard to just record what they're listening to. Sure quality is a factor, but most broke cats aren't going to care that they quality is low, they just want the beat to rap on.

I don't see the point to a tag, and I've turned off more instrumentals due to over tagging.

Thanx all for the feedback. I registered all my beats with the copyright office but im still gonna put my tag at least once in every track i put online. Mainly just to promote myself. That way if someone hears a beat and thinks it hot they'll know who made it.

Personally I think tags are annoying too (most of the time) However, I still use them... Just don't make it every 4 bars! AND DEFINITELY COPYRIGHT all your tracks!!! Tag or no tag, copyright! Like someone previously said, you can copyright an entire CD full of tracks instead of one track at a time.

I also use a tag, I know that it won't prevent people to cut/paste the parts without the tag.
So I only put it before each chorus, so it appears 4 times in a song, not more. I tried to make it not too disturbing, what do you think?
(if you can give a listen to any of my track, you'll hear the tag just after the intro)

Registering the tag will just mean you have registered the tag and not anything that you put the tag onto. If you copyright a beat with a tag on it, then you can claim that anyone who copies your tag has infringed on copyright as well as anyone who has copied your beat.

I believe in tagging the beat for promo so that people know who did the track but not over tagging it to where an artist can't or wouldn't want to use it for a demo. I studied several producers formats on tagging. But overall still copyright your tracks.
