Question About Editing Patches On The Roland XV-5050

I was wondering :

1. Would I be able to manipulate sounds and edit them to my liking on here like I would with say a Fantom X or Motif?

2. The 5050 doesn't have a smart media slot, how would I go about manipulating a patch and saving it? Same thing for crafting a song with it (using the ASR-10 as a controller), I ask this because I see that the only port it really has is USB and I'm not going to have a computer availible to hook-up to it for QUITE a while.

do u mean like adding effects and saving it? i'm pretty sure u can edit it on the xv5050. If not just record what u want, and edit it on the computer. Really, it's the same thing.

for a 5050 you have to do most of the eiditing on a computer which is the reason why I sold my XV-2020 and went down to a 1080 and later to a 3080 when they came down in price. I perfer to all the editing right there on the panel so you don't have to worry about the damn computer.

does the 5050 come with a patch editor software? it has a usb port.

yeah it has both. Patch editor software and USB, but it really sucks if you can afford it get a 5080 or 3080.

bhunt, I'm not arguing with you, but I don't have a problem editing my XV5050 from the front panel. I wouldn't say it's easy but it's not that difficult. It's kinda like programming a TC Electronics G-Force, or just about any other effects processor. Once you've done it a few times, it's second nature....Ok, maybe a few hundred times.
The XV Software makes it a lot easier. But it's not very convenient, if you work with computer based software anyway, like
Sonar or whatever. Not for me anyway. So I've gotten used to programming without it.

Read up on it. You can save your own bank of patches in the XV itself. You can make your own drumkits, and save them also.
then there is the software Librarian. you can save as many banks as you want on your computer, but only load one at a time.
