Sasha Gear ??? (progressive questions)

Anybody know about DJ Sasha gear what type of synth he use for lead and bass. What geat i need (software) to write progressive house track i use Cubase SX tell me what VST instruments and plugins are for my instance.Tell me anything can help me.
 
hhmmnnn, well he has a song called Xpander, and I think he probably got that name from the old OBerheim Xpander synths. Just pick up a couple of Native Instrument Soft Synths and you should be fine.
 
Not sure how true this is...

But from what another Gear head buddy of mine was telling me is that Sasha doesn't really write the Music ,he is more of an "Executive Producer" Meaning that he may write some of it but pretty much oversees the process handed down to someone else. At least that is what was told to me about the Airdrawndagger CD. But I don't own and actual commercial copy of the CD I have a Copied version so I can't read the liner notes about who did the CD.

But that is not uncommon in this "Electronica" industry. For instance D-Fuse doen't write his own stuff. He even admits it in an online interview I read on him. And to think I liked some of his or should I say his partners production work. But he did admit he writes some parts but his collauge does most of the real work.

Can u tell what synth can i use for melodies and what for pads

i have all the native instruments synth.

huh?? im confused.. your pic shows you sitting in front of all kinds of dope gear.. Nord lead. looks like JP8000 and another Nord Lead.. And you don't know how to make a pad or melody??

Sell some of that gear and take a music class.. Im not trying to be a dick just that you have the tools you need.. Now if you meant to be like a Sasha imatation I say do your own thing and not try to sound like someone else.. Orginilaty gets you alot further.

hhhmm, so your pick shows you with 2 Nord Leads and a Roland Juno 106, and you don't know what to use? Use the Juno 106 for pads. Use Absynth for Pads. Use the Nord lead for your leads. Use Reaktor for everything. For basslines use a Juno 106.
 
Go to to Sasha's website and there are some interviews where he talks about what gear he used for airdrawndagger. I know for sure he used Logic and Absynth. And as for the "Executive producer" line. I wouldn't put much weight in that. He did produce the album with two other people,but I just dont believe that he just sat there had them two do all the work and then put his name on the cd. I don't think Charlie May,Junkie XL, or James Holden would let him do that. I would like to see somebody ask him that. As for D:fuse just because he doesn't have his own Studio doesn't mean he doesn't have any input when him and Shane Horward make a track. Shoot maybe Timo Mass doesn't produce, most of the Equipment they work on belongs to Martin Buttrich who produces all the tracks with him, but only get's credits in the notes. I'm not knocking your opinions I'm just just saying I wouldn't put to much faith in what my "gear head" buddy says.
 
I share all your opinions, guys. Nords and JP-8000 are definitely part of the game, as well as Juno synths.

If you want a less expensive way, get the Spectrasonics Atmosphere and Trilogy VSTi softsynths; it's all-in !! Atmosphere has great strings, pads, atmospheric sounds, and lead sounds out of a 3 GB excellent quality sample library containing samples from the greatest synths ever (from MOOG, ARP, the Roland Jupiter- and Juno-series, over dozens of other vintage synths, up to the newest Virus).
Trilogy has the same (plus hundreds of acoustic bass samples) - but for bass sounds only.
 
From what I hear Fatboy Slim still uses an Atari to sequence his synths and he makes stuff that blows my mind. So you could use anything that sequences - Cubase, Logic, DP, Sonar, Cakewalk, Cubasis, Nuendo - and they will do the job.

The hard part is the sounds and structure of the song. You don't need to have every piece of gear and program to make good music - it causes too many choices to pick from. You just need one or two solid sound sources to get you going. Once you master them you will realize that it can do all you ask of it, or you will need more - but you will know regardless.

I saw the pic too, you have a lot of good equipment, probably more than most of the big guys out there. What you need to do is think what you want to produce and work backwards to put the pieces in place. I'm a newbie at this too.
 
I was on progressivesounds.com the other day and I was checking out what kind of gear some of those guys use( and these are people that are having there tracks played by Sasha,digweed,ect). Alot of them use straight software setups.There are a few that have produced tracks using just fruityloops or Reason. You don't need to spend $5000 on a bunch of synths to make music anymore. Its not what you have but how you use it.

In reference to sasha's tracks. I know he uses big blue, the novation series synths for xpander. In a few interviews I've read about him, and also theres a website that discusses producers and their gear, he talks about the way his production goes. Also being a good fan of james holden, its my understanding that they way they correspond on tracks is James lays down a bassline, and sascha whips out a lead, and they let the sound engineers worry about coming up with the dope kicks and ambience to the track, and they sequence, arrange and play it all out themselves.

As far as D:Fuse, being from his hometown, and having worked with him in the past, I can honestly say dustin is a pretty good guy, he is very talented. He plays piano quite well and is very good at writing music. His sound engineer is a super intelligent guy who has also done a lot for the ministry of sound. I'll have to find his card, but he has his website listed on his card, and it goes into some detail about his engineering process and his inspiration. But it takes talent to be able to get to that level that you can have engineers lay stuff down for you. Look at timo maas and fatboy slim, they all have sound engineers that work all their gear for them. I forgot where I was going with this...but uhm..yah... i'll post the website for his engineer and the website that talks about producers and their gear when i get home from work tonight.
