you know me well
Thinking of getting this deck, mainly for sampling using the digital out.

Later I want to get a mixer and try to learn to scratch stuff for my beats.

Would the str8-80 be alright, cause i don't have the cash for the 100.
I don't know about the low torque for scratching.
Let me know if anyone has tried these..

Thanks

i started with 'em, then moved to techs. i didn't think the torque was that far off - the biggest fault to me was the wow & flutter (i just mix - no scratch).

i think they're an excellent deal for what you're looking for, if you don't want to go techs. i never used the digital out, but i'm sure its decent

If you are hell bent on not getting a 1200, get a 100 series stanton instead of an 80. They are about the same price now, and you can get a s-curved arm on the 100 to make samples sound a little better if you care...

Ive heard of people having problems scratchin with the stantons---as far as when they scratch the motor sometimes wants to go in reverse---they saida good set of wax paper or butter rugs helped this but still ...I would just wait around till you can pick up a used 1200

i'd just steer clear of any stanton table, i started out on a pair of str8-60s and they only brought me fustration. You can get used techs off ebay for around 350 a pop if u look hard enough... so id say save up till u can afford em and throw in a UMX to go in between em to save cash

the str8-80s are not bad decks for the $$$. i think Guitar Center Still has them for $200 w/ a 520 sk cartridge. Not a Bad deal. Just the platter on ALL Stantons seems a little thin and it resonates alot of sound and distortion. And for $300 you can get the Str8-100 or ST-100 w/o cartridge. Of all Stanton Turntables i luv my str8-100 and thinking bout keeping it w/ techs ;)

I started on Str8 80's back in the day. They do tend to go in reverse on occasion during a scratch session. I also had to have one repaired 2 weeks after I get them because the left channel output stopped working. I dunno, would go for the Str8-100's, they are pretty close to the Techs for the price. But if you see yourself in the future still using turntables, save up for techs, or at least a pair of used ones. I used to hear that all the time when I first started and I didn't listen; I wish I had, I woulda saved myself money and frustration.

whats the point in getting techs if he ONLY wants to scratch?

i reckon pdx's would suit him much better for almost exactly the same price.

but the 80's arent that bad, just stay away from the 60's or lower, they are cack

Thanks for the replies.

I don't know anything about scratching, but I was just gonna get a new deck for sampling cause right now I am using a ****ty belt drive.

I wanted to learn how to do basic scratching to put on songs, not anything for live performance, so basically I would be able to get a lot of takes at getting the type of scratching that i was looking for i geuss.. does that make sense?

I dunno about techs because they're like $750 cnd, plus I need a mixer to run into my sound card, whereas the str8-80 can go right to digital... letting me sample, then have time to save up for a mixer to learn to scratch with...

if he's not doing live performances and plans on practicing for a while, i would suggest str80 or 100s as well.

Yeah, I am only gettin ONE. The main use will be sampling w/ the digital output.

I wanted to know if it would be alright for scratching later if I got a mixer, just so I could add some light amounts of scratching. I in no way want to learn to Mix or Dj, nor do I want Babu quality scratching on my beats, just little things before the hook, etc.

go for the str8-80 - the 60 is naff for scratching, the 100 is beyond your needs

happy buying!
