Man I thought they were all original. I was being the vinyl dust sniffer I always am and I found "lou rawls - dead en street" right around a minute and a half into the song when he really starts singing I was like where do I know this from.... after a couple of minutes it came to me it was that roots single the seed 2.0 I think.

Normally I wouldn't trip like this but I thought the roots came up with that I was kinda dissapointed

The Seed 2.0 was born out of Cody Chesnutt's The Seed,Hence the 2.0, I'm not sure about that Low Rawls joint. Since they replayed it, it would be considered a cover and not a sample.

True. But they don't really sing the song, they took the melody. i gotta give them props tho. I saw them at northsea jazz festival, theyre an amazing band

So the Roots took it from Cody Chesnutt who got it from Lou Rawls, What album is it? I'd like to hear it. You should check out Cody Chesnutt - The Headphone Masterpiece, pretty good album made entirely at his home.

although bizzarely the seed(1.0) was released after the seed 2.0!

naw, dogg. the seed 1.0 is on Headphone Masterpiece. just look at the titles, after 1 comes... yep 2.

the Seed 1.0 didn't really get noticed till after the seed 2.0 came out.

Hey man, i live in england so mabye it's different over here, the haeadphone masterpiece definatley came out way before over here too, but cody chesnutt released a double a side 12" with the seed/the world is coming after the roots released the seed 2.0 single

ok, I see what your saying, 1.0 was released as a Single after 2.0

I was just saying 1.0 was made before 2.0

I haven't seen 12"s of either so go figure, maybe it was a bootleg.

Yes the Roots sample, "Distortion to Static" form Do You Want More?, used a sample "Clones" and "Ital" from Illadelph/Halflife used samples.
The roots are a hip hop band. Sampling is hip-hop.

I know "sampling is hiphop" but I'm just saying I thought they were all original.

Everyone samples to a certain degree. Even famous composers incorperate elements of other tracks into their songs.

Peace
