Her's an old track from about 2 years ago.
I did all sampling, sequencing, and editing on the Zoom.
I have yet to find a friggin vst plugin effect that will make me forget how phat the zoom sounds at 16khz.

no sound homie..jus a blank white page...

let me know..

Bought my Sampletrak 2 months ago and did 3 tracks until now :

Soundquality is not how it should be but I'm workin' on it...

Peace

Nice work Mattman and Soulgrit!

I have a sampletrak myself, but didn't figure out how to make tight beats with it. I didn't use it for much more than a dj effects unit until now.

Any tips? Do you get pops when samples end; how do you get around that?

I guess my trigger pads are a bit worn. Sometimes samples trigger two or three times when i hit once.

Can i open the sampletrak to fix the pads?

Thx crazymike!

If you get those pops try to modify the end points of your samples. Also you might try to redo the sequencing, sometimes you just have to push/release the samples differently..

Another hint was pointed out by Mattman already : Select the Volume/Bass effect and when you press the pad, quickly turn the EDIT1 wheel down, that way it works like a decay workaround.

You could try to open the Sampletrak but I never did it and can't help you about this.

Turning down the volume wheel would be done when resampling?

Anyone using that velocity tool anyway?

I uploaded it, cuz it seems to be offline: http://users.skynet.be/bk261256/velocity.zip .

I find it kinda akward to use an external sequencer for the sampletrak, because it automatically triggers in 'gate' mode. So using a controller isn't all that and you have to draw midi notes the exact sample length.

Oh, and what internal sequencer settings (quantizing/swing) do you use, Soulgrit?

Concerning the EDIT wheel : yes, exactly.

I don't use that velocity tool and I don't use an external sequencer. I do all my tracks completely on the Sampletrak, except maybe some pre-eq & filtering on the pc.

If you want to program with velocity there is a workaround : simply copy the sample on several pads and adjust the level settings for those pads.

Usually I only quantize my hihats with 1/8 and maybe also the snares with 1/16. I haven't really used the swing yet but I figured out that the swing only affects your quantized samples.

One thing I do mostly is to double the seq's BPM. If you want to make a 90bpm beat just set the bpm to 180 to get a smoother sequencing.

thx for the tips Soulgrit,

I'll do that bpm doubling. I'll try to make some funky lo-fi drum patterns and then sync them with my akai s-1000.

where do you guys get your hi hats n drums from?

i hooked it up to my turntable n sampled this dope melody type thing..but now i need the drums n other stuff to make it a "beat"...

also i read the manual..but is this how you make a "beat" i have the sample on one pad loop it..then i'm guessin you do the same thing for the drums n hi hats n other stuff? thne jus loop it all an record it somehow?

or what step am i missin here?

p..s.. the way yall talk is like sounds like your usin an mpc or something wit the filter this n edit wheel that.. crazy!

Oh come on...it's seems to me that you don't even know the concepts of beatmaking !

161 posts and still not knowing the basics...

I'm gonna break it down for you :

- hihats, kicks, snares, cymbals, claps, etc are all drums

- you'll find the drums from the same source you already mentioned yourself
-> the turntable !
also you could search on the internet for some free drumkits or samplekits where drums are included.

- read the manual from start to end and then read it once again.

- try to do simple sequences in the beginning and see how the different quantizations affect them.

- start making a 2 or 4 bar sequence and record your pad hits on it. for example you start with the hihats and then add all other elements. when you have done your sequences, resample them and assign them to pads. now again you make one sequence which will be the complete beat. now you record your pad sequences into the beat sequence and voila, there is your complete beat.

by the way I don't use an MPC, I said PC for the pre-equalizing and filtering. the edit wheel is on your Sampletrak in case you didn't notice !

Peace
