Hey everyone, Below is a complete guide for producers getting started online, as well as some good tips and my system for gaining exposure online, hope it helps 
PICK A NAME
** if you haven't picked out a producer name yet, heres some things to keep in mind**
-name should be easy to read/say and spell (misspelling a name will make it hard for people to find you if they just hear your producer tag and someone talking about you, without seeing your name on a vid etc. it will be hard for people to find you)
- name should be appealing and relevant to the style of music you play (a producers name is the biggest aspect in marketing, it gets people through your door, and having a name that represents the style of music you play will help build the right fanbase.)
-once you find a good name, look it up on google, youtube, soundclick etc. to make sure it is not taken, it will help people find you if there are not other associations with your new name.
BRANDING
this is one of the most important things you can do as a producer, it wont really help you get fans at first but it pays off in the end, it will help true fans recognize you better and help people find you after your work you ass off for a few years and gain some popularity.
-buy a Producer Tag! for about 20-50 dollars you can get a professional producer tag that! i would not recommend making your own, for less then you spend a week on drinks and food, you can have a professional producers tag that will be placed on any music you put online, which is one of the most important things you can do as a producer. This helps producers gain exposure and have people searching for them on youtube, google etc.

- Having tagged free mp3 downloads is a great way to gain exposure too, youd be surprise how many people will take those songs and make youtube videos and mixtapes with your music and tag!
-Create a logo that has your producer name in it that can be placed on youtube videos and artwork for twitter, facebook etc.
PROTECT YOUR MUSIC!
its a strong misconception that placing a producer tag in your music will protect it and so on, the fact is unless you tag every loop of your song (sounds horrible), chopping up a different part of the song and replacing the tagged part with a non tagged part of your song is very easy to do, in other words its very easy for someone to remove a tag. The best thing you can do is have a short tag in the beginning that most rappers and artist will have no problem leaving in the song.
Only uploading snippets will make it harder for people to steal your work, however a snippet is usually a min or so in which case a verse and chorus has already been played and it will be easy to chop and repeat to make a full song, and its a bad idea in regards to gaining popularity and exposure through artist mixtapes and youtube videos that use your content.
Copyrighting your work and adding a producer tag is the best way protect your music and not hurt your business

YOUTUBE
youtube is special for many reasons
Its very important to understand how youtube works!
Youtubes success hinders on the content of the videos people upload onto the site
In order for youtube to decide which videos are real/relevant/entertainment/popular etc., it relies on a system that tracks everything that happens with your video, where people come from, how long they watched your video, if they click on a related video of just left, how many likes, shares, favorites, comments, views and just about anything else you can think of, youtube uses this info to determine the quality of your video and to what related videos or search results it will appear on!
Knowing this information is invaluable because you can use this to your advantage
Keep in mind that the quality and content of your video is far more important then your tags, title or seo information, so making the best production is key
Once youve created your channel and made the artwork and info etc. its time to upload videos!
UPLOADING VIDEOS
-Determine what kindof video it is (hip hop beat, slow R&B beat, drake type beat etc.)
-Use the youtube tool finder to help locate keywords for tags and title (you can also search for keywords based on other peoples video which is helpful) Create a large tag list with some short, long, simple and specific keywords

-zoom out on your artwork so that it is very small so you can see what it will look like in search result, related videos and on phones/ tablets
BUILDING A FANBASE
Here is my system that works very well
1 Start on youtube
2 search for hip hop beats, r&b beats or my favorite… type artist beats that match the type of music and artist beats that you make, make sure to filter your search for recent videos uploaded a week ago at most!
3 find a video you like, subscribe and like that video
4 comment on the video after listening, make a comment that lets the person know you heard there music and slip in a quick hmu
GOOD EX: Love the transitions in this beat, very smooth! Big fan bro sub back n keep it! I like your style
BAD EX: Dope, check out my channel
5 after you’ve hit up the youtube video, go to the channel page and click on the links for twitter and facebook ( others if they have it, g14, FP, datpiff etc.) follow and like, I usually put up a quick little comment on the fb page to let them know I stopped by, also like the page from your page! It will help people like your page back.
This system is great, no spamming, no same text mass commenting or letters, all in all to complete the system for one new fan starting from the youtube video, will only take a min or so! Make sure your signed into your twitter and fb so you can just follow them real quick from the links!
I get about a 80% return feed when I do this, just putting up a quick comment on they’re youtube vid will generally yield about a 20% return feed, so its worth the extra min.
Do this to 20 people a day for about 45 min and you will grow fast on all social sites! And remember these people are going to hit you back, so have your videos up before you start doing this and make sure you have your links up on your page and video info etc, so its easy for people to network with you and having continuous likes, comments and traffic to your youtube vids will help youtube recognize them as good videos and help them raise to the top of search results and show up on related videos!
SELLING MUSIC ONLINE!
Get your own website or a paided soundclick as your online store front
I would recommend soundclick, being on the site doesn’t give you much advantage, but for a young producer it’s a cheap and easy way to go and its really the same as having your own site

Last but not least, I would do some small advertising for your new site, promote a FB post of your new site for 10 dollars or promote a sale offer on your site.
Once your sites is up and running, make sure to include it everywhere! In the picture of your youtube videos, in your on twitter, fp, in your beat info on soundcloud etc. anywhere you can think to share your site and bring in customers.
