1st-sample- pick the sample or samples you want to chop

2nd-tempo-this is nesscessary when building a beat ,tap tempo is your best friend.

3rd-drums-pick the essentials kicks, snares, hihats, cymbals, crashes, toms or percs cause drummers cant actually play more then this -note its good to think like a drummer .

4th-lay down a snare to start the flow of the beat ,then take the metronome off to have more sense more (control)

5th-laydown some nice kicks to add that boombap feel an in the process you can go back an forth arrangen your drums till you get what you want note - cause the drums are the skeleton of the beat .

6th- laydown some hihats to add a a groove to the beat

7th- add swing -to your beats most times well known neosoul producers like j-dilla.9th,premo,rza had this distinctive humanized swing feel to there authentic style -note -some quantized and some didnt

7th 1/2- add sample chops always chop by bars or beats inorder to have control of the sample for example - chop a 16 note 2 bars and open flslicer , set the beats at 4, 8 , 16 in the top right in fl slicer then go to the slice folder under misc pick beat and the slices should be evenly chopped, then jus play till you get a pattern you are satisfied with then lay it down .

8th-bass-filter the sample u pick to chop or chop a note from the sample ,then filter that indivual note to have a bass ,eq the low end to bring more umph to the bass .

9th-add fx - reverb to the samples or to indivual ones eq/comp if a must to the drums.

10th-intro-outro - add a nice sample to add some spice to the beat

hope this helps your creative spark!!

Ok the intentions were good, but unless you want to be a generic producer I wouldn't follow this

in my part of town if we have nothing goood to say we stay shut '

I get what your trying to do, but this method, although it may work for you, isnt necessarily going to work for everyone. In fact there really is no one method or formula...even for the Great Producers that you mentioned. Welcome to the forum anyway.

this works but its not the best thing for everyone to follow because everyone works differently. For example the original samples tempo has very little to do with my end product because of the way I chop samples. I chop samples like I chop drum loops. Note by note and then play them out in a keyboard fashion so in my case some of this stuff doesn't work. Your heart is in the right place though and for that I appriciate you adding something worth while to FP.

No methods is honestly the best advice i've ever heard.

For example, I do my sample chops before anything...then the drums come second. Its what works for you son.

yeah theres alot of methods but i dont see them like this -i think ive been making beats so long an i came up with these formula , if it works cool take it or leave it , all i wanted too do is give beginners a guide cause if i hadd this info i would take it an runn with it as far as i could , im not the best at explaining myself but i hope yall understood where i was trying to go with , the end result you add your personal flavor to your beats i jus wanted contribute the work-flow cause theres kind of a creative block at times and wanted to give then too take upon my stay , here on future producers - peace fellow intelligent samplers

*sigh* Firstly, most of the people here know how to make a beat so you shouldn't be surprised coz a lot of them don't really... appreciate your advice. I think the thread MIGHTA done better in the beginner section.

And secondly, your going to get negative feedback here. That's assured but Greeze's reply was hardly negative. Quite passive actually, coz what I was originally going to say about this thread woulda made me look like an ******* lol, but I didn't, felt kinda sorry.

AnyWAY welcome to fp.

why cant people on the internet get along without trying to correct eachother? we dont do this shit in our normal lives so why do it here?

i do this shit on an everyday basis in life...

* best method of mine to make a beat...

1.smoke a fat blunt
2.relax and listen to samples
3.when inspiration strikes.. have at it..
4.gigle a bit to yourself about how cool your new beat is..
5.post it on the internet in threads with topics totaly unrelated to yourself and your music...

:D

Here is my approach:

1. Find a dope sample. As long as its dope, I dont care if someone used it before or whateva. Feel the sample, Dont just pickup a random sample.

2. While I am listening to the sample, I already have a rough idea on the beat I am gonna make.

3. Then I chop up the sample. I don't have any set method in chopping.

4. Then lay down some drums, bass..or anything extra you want to add. As illmind said "The drums definitely got to bang".

Peace.

good post man, i felt it was helpfull. these arent strict guidelines look at them as reference points for beginners who have no idea where to start. after practicing they should get more comfortable and start doing things the way they see fit.

No diss, but I agree with the general sentiment that there is no real "formula" to making music. I mean, you could have done this process exactly backwards and came out with a something ill.

There are so many variables involved with making music in general. Just try to catch a vibe...

I dont care about who you are or how long you been doin this. All game is good game! If this is too basic then use it as a foundation and put your own creative spin on it. Thanks for this fam!

I think that this was a great tutorial homie! It's always good to master the fundamentals and from that evolve to different techniques:)
