yeah that's right. when I got my vocoder it was only in one monotone no matter how I sounded. then I realised I had to hool it up to a keyboard and play with the nobs. I can sound like any voice my keyboard has. but I gotta learn how to play notes

Well once you have a midi file created you can use it for any instrument or vocoder...chances are they layered two sounds, one being the the vocoder (Roland Vp-70 maybe) and the other i would imagine was a synth guitar....that midi file would play them at the same sequence and from there it would just be eq and mixing.....
