I disagree with your definition because A) The top 40 attitude has been around for decades there's nothing really modern about it nor does not having a Top 40 attitude make you not modern. And there are tons of great producers who do not follow that Top 40 model (Pete Rock, Dj Premier, RZA, Madlib, J Dilla, Alchemist, Havoc, Salem Remi, and surely more that I just not have thought up) who have been able to make money from this business. I also do not believe that it is so black and white as far as if you want to make money you have to do Top 40 or you don't want anything to do with the business. There are some who value the art more then the money and don't want to have any part of the business and there are those who love the art and want to create the art but still want to get paid also. You're definition leaves a lot of gray area imo. There are two types of music producers in this world: the idealist, and the modern producer. The idealist believes in music in its most rawest of form. He believes the creation of music, and the business of music, do not or should not go hand and hand. The modern producer is both a musician (debatable) and a business enthusiast. He believes music should be enjoyed by millions, and to do so, follows a set of formulas that are equivalent to that of the current trend (Top 40).

Neither of these ideologies are wrong, but I lean more towards the modern producer. History shows us that the greatest music producers have always been Pop, Top 40s, hit record driven.
Our biggest issue as writers and music producers, has always been the ability to cope with reality; consumers, fans, listeners, etc, are not musicians! They do not care about the bitching chord structure you just created, nor would they recognize it in the first place.
Dr. Luke, Benny Blanco, RedOne, and Max Martin all create music for the mindless, meaning the entire world of music consumers. That is where the success is.

Dr Luke was a jingle writer in the mid 90's
Great PostAlthough, it may depend on what you mean by music for the mindless?
In regards to the gray areas ^
Here is the thing: A producer may not always know that he's a modern producer or an idealist.
Dr Luke was a jingle writer in the mid 90's, and a session player. Hes got a great knack for melodies. I dont think its mindless, He just makes catchy music. and to be honest some of his production uses some intermediate music theory hes just very crafty at it. If you listen to "Who Dat girl" by Flo-Rida try and figure out the chord progression without cheating... Its the diatonics you hear but underneath very subtlely there is the actual exotic chords played.
Benny Blanco to me is one of the better synth programmers in the game. perfect example of a guy whos not as musically inclined(musician) as Max Martin<dr Luke, but his creativity is off the charts.
They are a super group and the hidden gem in that team is AMMO.
But honestly We have to give love to dubstep and electro producers. All the Tik Tok synths, and Pulse screamers were heard more by Swedish House mafia,Benny Benassi, and Rank 1. Guys should really listen to these groups because they were doing the 8bit sound 5 years ago before Luke,Blanco, exploded. and Stargate and Rotem have been paying attention to modern Dubstep by Benga, and Labrinth.
the fact of the matter is...
it really doesnt boil down to there formula...
it is all about money...
there could be 20 people on this board who sound exactly like them musically...
but if you haven't solidified a connect and given away majority of your publishing... you'll never see one of these top hit records...
the one thing all of the "current" hitmakers have in common is theyre making someone else a ton of money via there publishing splits...
What makes you think Ammo will excel all the others....? I heard Jesse Mccartney's "Shake" and well... idk. But I'm sure he must be pretty decent to be under the doctor and whatnot..
Where are these ammo videos lol
