you make beats for some one and they take the credit. but you agree and get paid

Yes, it's like you never did the work. Except you get paid.:D

i guess ghost producers must be individuals that have a "name" in the indusrty right? I mean why will a newcommer do it if no one is going to know his work? it might be tempting to get a good "grip" yet i think IMHO it would be better to create your name and then produce works like this for others.

It all depends on you goals man. Mel Man started out by ghost producing for Dre and then worked his way up from there.

no doubt.. earn some greens and get some better equipment, build up some contacts etc.. and if you're really good you'll be able to go out on your own name.

I mean if you making platinum hits for someone else, they're going to either pay you better and better or agree to give you points and credit.

Me personally I would love to ghost produce. I don't want fame but the fortune I wouldn't mind too much. :)

A lot of new producers will ghost produce cuz it also gives the acess to artist and big budget studios.

And if you think about it, you can still tell people you made that track, like your friends, family and non-believers, because you'll always have the original in beat form.

Plus kick-ass remixes of your own original track make really cheap gifts :)

alot of the stuff you hear on the radio is not done by the person you think it is and see on the credits...alot of beats and lyrics and songs are bought out cash and changed up a bit by the bigger producers.. Alot of producers dont neccessarily go in the studio and program the drums and build the tracks....Im not saying they cant but they dont always. A producer may buy a beat, hire musicians and songwriters to build upont that and oversee the project...I know of one song where the lyrics were bought from an aspiring rapper and the beat from a small producer and the rappers who put it out were big...It happens all the time..Money talks....If you have a track and someone says theyll give u 20g for it, what would you do?

And what they're doing there is still being a producer, seeing as they oversee all the creative aspects, except the beat itself.

That's why in the credits it'll say: Produced by This-Biting-Fool.

Me, I'd never do that sh*t. Originality is what makes hip-hop what it is, in my eyes.

theres also a ton of people who wanna be a ghost producers or writers and I dont know about how much money initially cause I know of a few guys who have songs they wanna give up for free ( all copyrights signed over) just to get a foot in the door.

Also you have to remember that "producing" and "beat making" isn't the same thing. Producing actually involves building the song and building the song and turning out the finished product.
