st-sample- pick the sample or samples you want to chop
nd-tempo-this is nesscessary when building a beat ,tap tempo is your best friend.
rd-drums-pick the essentials kicks, snares, hihats, cymbals, crashes, toms or percs cause drummers cant actually play more then this -note its good to think like a drummer .
th-lay down a snare to start the flow of the beat ,then take the metronome off to have more sense more (control)
th-laydown some nice kicks to add that boombap feel an in the process you can go back an forth arrangen your drums till you get what you want note - cause the drums are the skeleton of the beat .
th- laydown some hihats to add a a groove to the beat
th- add swing -to your beats most times well known neosoul producers like j-dilla.9th,premo,rza had this distinctive humanized swing feel to there authentic style -note -some quantized and some didnt
th 1/2- add sample chops always chop by bars or beats inorder to have control of the sample for example - chop a 16 note 2 bars and open flslicer , set the beats at 4, 8 , 16 in the top right in fl slicer then go to the slice folder under misc pick beat and the slices should be evenly chopped, then jus play till you get a pattern you are satisfied with then lay it down .
th-bass-filter the sample u pick to chop or chop a note from the sample ,then filter that indivual note to have a bass ,eq the low end to bring more umph to the bass .
th-add fx - reverb to the samples or to indivual ones eq/comp if a must to the drums.
th-intro-outro - add a nice sample to add some spice to the beat
hope this helps your creative spark!!
