Anybody can know of an outfit that does hard beats but with like a metal guitar, drum sound? Like NIN but techno?

i dont understand what you mean by like nin, but techno.

try KMFDM, its not really techno, but its the same kind of industrial metal type of thing as NIN, maybe a bit more techno-ish

also Chemlab, Die Warzau, some Frontline Assembly, Biopsy, Swamp terrorists, Das Ich, latr funker vogt etc etc etc

Have a listen to The Berserker or Agoraphobic Nosebleed. A lot of speedcore uses guitar samples; check out the Street Trash Alliance, mainly Napalm.

how is grindcore in any way shape or form, 'metal techno'?

Rok, I think what you're after has yet to exist, at least in its purest most exciting form. But it should exist! And probably will soon.

I'm a long time techno/electro producer but although I love house and electro beats I'm looking for new directions after many many years of ploughing the same furrow. I raised the spectre of metal techno on another board and was howled down by detroit purists, haha! They thought it was a terrible idea. That board, however, had techno fans rather than techno artists.

I then posted the same question on a couple of techno boards I frequent (ie, what about some metal techno , likeJudas Priest or Slayer but completely electronic?) and got a very enthusiastic response. In fact some guy from Sweden who's completely crazy is going in that direction already and sent me some stuff! It was great!!

I'm also going in that direction - writing completely electronic tracks with synthetic sounds and rock rhythms and vocals. It's interesting to say the least - the results so far are nothing like NIN, Front 242, Skinny Puppy etc, more like Suzi Quatro over electronic rock riffs. These are rock songs, structure and all: but the rock drumming is 909, and the riffs are done with synthetic digital sounds put through distortion pedals. The vocals are real.

I also wonder what gabba in the style of The Mover would sound like if it had hard rock beats and vocals; and what would happen if some crazy nutter decided to write 70/80's heavy metal in the style of Priest or Sabbath, with electronic/robotic vocals. Hopefully some of you are, and would like to send me some!!! I'll swap ya.

check out THE SHIZIT

its like electronic metal with a drum'n'bass kinda beat at about 220, kinda gabberish at times too, check em out

The UK breaks group, Hardknox, have a very metal sound to them. A lot of distortion and grinding guitars over vicious breakbeats.

I would say while there is no such thing as "metal techno", there is definately a lot of heavy metal that is made at least in part using synths, beat loops, and other "techno" techniques. what makes "techno" is a repetitive beat and minimal samples or sounds, so really, the two styles are too different for there to be "metal techno". But is plenty of electronic music that uses metal riffs and vocals, as well as metal music that uses electronics.

the closest would be Industrial, as well as acts like White Zombie, Mindless Self Indulgence, Pop Will Eat Itself, Meat Beat Manifesto, Slipknot, even Marilyn Manson. also, a lot of gabber, noisecore, terrorcore, broken beat, etc. incorporate guitars and guitar samples into their songs.

I think what you are searching for is definately out there, and has been out there for over a decade if not longer. "metal techno" is the wrong name for it, but electronic music and heavy metal have been put together many times and in many different ways since the early 90's.

I think there are not too much bands playing something like metal techno...

I wonder if there will be a real merge between both genres on next 10/15 years, something like speed metal like KREATOR or ANTHRAX but in a techno version.

I think today's rock/techno or metal/techno (if something like that exist) is just electronic music with added guitars, or guitars with some guy playing a keyboard.

One interesting band is ATARI TEENAGE RIOT, hardpunktechno band with a female singer. But too corrosive.

I imagine something like TOOL, with very complex structures and feelings, made with very powerful electronic sounds...

It's not just addin guitars riffs over the electronic music, but a band with a totally new concept from both genres :bat:

Yes, Balma, that's what I'd like to hear too - and it would be a totally new form, seamless, rather than a hybrid of techno and metal where ideas from both are sort of pasted together, as you point out.

well if its a totally new look on the genre, then it cant really be metal techno can it?

besides that, it already exists.

its called industrial metal, its been around for a good 15 years.

then theres slaughter house and coldwave.

this is nothing new.

there isnt much territory left to explore in either worlds.

I particularly like this bit of Balma's post:

well thats all well and good that you like that part, but you ignored my one point

that point being, every conceivable aspect of heavy metal has already been mixed with every conceiveable aspect of Techno/Industrial

anyways regardless of all that, the original poster is looking for bands similar to Nine Inch Nails.

aka industrial

Still with heavy guitar, but more techno-y,

aka a bit dancier.

hence Wax Trax.

man im gonna be reeeal busy now DL'ing songs.....Thanks for the input. And Circuit or anybody else id love to hear what your working on if you got any mixes even if its incomplete. I listened to some KMFDM, Chemlab, Skinny Puppy, and Front line Assembly and really liked the stuff.

Well, I think there's a 99% of territory unexplored...
Electronic music hasn't express yet its darkest, furious or angriest side on a proper way. Always there will be too much to say, too much to express with some anger, sarcasm or critic, and a band with the electronic sound and the anger of the new days hasn't born yet. I hope it will be soon....

i agree and disagree with you, Balma - i do beleive there is more room for sounds, songs, and bands that have never been heard before. However, if you look around, I think you will see that electronic music has indeed expressed unbeleivable anger and destructive force. You should listen to stuff like Nasenbluten, Bloody Fist Records, Venetian Snares, Addict Records, Doormouse, Stuntrock, Delta 9... This kind of noisecore, also known as broken beat, hits like a wall of destructive force!!!

No, it's nothing like any metal band, or industrial - it's its own genre of music and is easily the most vicious of ANY kind of music to have EVER been made. most people wouldn't even consider it music!

bottom line is that i agree that there is always room for new ideas and sounds, but if you think that the dark side of electronic music hasn't been fully explored, then think again.

Maybe you're right, but I think there is an urgent need of a refreshing and a REAL rebel band born from the dance electronic scene. The elements of joy, psychodelic, funk etc of the current electronic scene must give access to the critic. Critic and sarcasm seems to be non compatible yet with dance music, how do U imagine a band like Rage against the machine but with new electronic dance sounds assembled with rock concepts , and influences from the psychodelic culture, the joy of funk, and political events of the last two years?????

what EXACTLY is it you want to hear?

i think electronic music has far out done metal in the angry department years ago.

i mean if you step away from trance/house/techno and into industrial/noise/breakbeat, you will have some really heavy angy stuff
