Can some1 please convince me why I SHOULDNT change over to the MPC 1000 from the MPC3000. I use the 3K now, and LOVE It, but it IS time consuming in many ways. Can some1 please convince me why I should stay with the 3K?? It seems the 1K is relatively the same, just much more efficient. ??!?!?

ill trade you my xl with cash or ill buy the 3000 off you straight up.

im convinced, you must have riden the lttle bus to school when you were a child ( or is ? ) i said to chabbi4116 to not trade his 3000 for a 1000

why would you suggest not trading my mpc1000 for the 3000? I aint using a computer setup much so the 3000 would suit me more.

Trust us homes, trading a 3000 for a 1000 is like trading a top of the line Mercedes for a Chevy Cavalier. Everyone already clamoring for your 3000 should tip you off right now that that's not a wise decision and you might have sucker written on your forehead. The only thing really trading wise you migh consider for that Roger Linn is an XL or a 4000 and that's it. The Xl only because like you mentioned, it's more efficient in editing like zoning, etc. but it also has a poorer build quality. And the 4000 because well, it's a 4000. No need to take a step backwards with the 1000 and it's bugs. Trust me, alot of people can't get rid of ther's fast enough and you see em clogging up ebay goin for $600, about the same price as an old ass regular mpc 2000, while 3000's go for $1400 plus. You'd be doing yourself a huge disfavor by copping a 1000 when you already have and are used to a 3000.

is this cat serious?! man i wish i could talk somebody into taking my 1k for their 3k. don't get me wrong, i love my little joint. it doesn't give me any problems. i keep hearing people say it has bugs, but noone ever says any bad experiences they had with itpersonally. i think it's just gotten a bad rep from when it was first released, but everything has problems when it's first released.

will i give you my '04 cavalier for your hard-to-find '66 corvette...well....I GUESS. if you're gonna twist my arm. lol.

No one really explained why the 3000 was so much better than the 1000, which is what the original poster asked for.
And yall who first tried to get him to trade for it are some punks, if the price difference is that great.
We're supposed to be helping each other out not ripping each other off.
Bamas.

If I'm not mistaken the sample editing features are about the same from what I've read. I haven't messed around with a 3000 but I have read quite a bit about it because I was thinking about getting one but decided on the xl studio plus which I'm thinking of selling because I just don't have the time for it because of my new job. Since he has the 3000 I won't get into the details of that machine because he could probably tell me a thing or two. I've had the 1000 and I can definitely comment on that. I experienced every single problem and bug they're known for. Sometime's samples would drop, tracks would occasionally mute themselves, alot of times the actual performances I recorded would sound different when I loaded them into the mpc, and the real stinker, some of my performances would be totally gone when I tried to load them from the Compact Flash! To me that is unacceptable for a dedicated hardware piece I spend hundreds of dollars for and it can't even do the basics it was intended to do. I spent a whole month trying to make the 1000 work like it wa supposed to, but finally I had to give it up and take it back while I could. I hear they have a new OS, so hey, who knows, maybe everything functions perfect now, but first impressions last a lifetime and that one definitely lasted with me. If they can get those MAJOR kinks worked out and add timestretch, zoning, that would be hands down the best MPC after the 4000 because of it's size and computer friendliness. Until then.....

Oh yeah, and the pad sensitivity sucks on ALL of them. Very uneven. Sometimes I had to hit the pads like a sledgehammer to get any sounds out of them even at full level. If you guys that love your 1000 have even pad sensitivity, then count yourselves the lucky and the few. Because every single 1000 I ran into from one's on demo's to actual friends have crappy pads. The step edit also sucks too. But just remember I'm describing all the negatives. Someone can play Devil's Advocate and list all the positive's so this thread won't be completely biased. And for the guy who started this thread, trust me, you can get ALOT more info at www.mpc-forums.com

Hmmmm?
I am a 3000 owner. I like the 1000, but at this point, I woudn't trade for it. When I needed a MPC1000, a few years ago it didn't exist. I was doing production projects in schools and prisons I could have used it. Its small size and weight would have been perfect for those long trips and getting thru security.

If you need to transport your gear from site to site. If you have space issues, then maybe it's a good idea. But overall, if the 3000 works for you already and you've made stuff with it, why learn a new machine.

Would a trumpet player or violinist get a new one just because the manufacturer made one?

Peace.

hahah u guys r nuts...i wasnt gonna trade it for the 1k. I was just looking for a detailed explanation on what technically and musically separated the machines. I have not used a 1k b4, but for the price it looks like it has alot of features. Im very comfortable and happy with the 3k and its simplicity, but it doesnt hurt to learn whats out there.

this is an old post but i can offer you some of the differences i experienced with my MPCs.

I have both a 3k and 1k.

3k is better cuz.....

1. Just sounds better. I think the 1k is a bit brighter on some samples but not harsh but definitely not silky smooth. 3k FOR SURE is is thicker in the drum department. I have the same 808 drum set loaded on both machines. the boomy kick sounds ALOT more boomy and thick on my 3k.....

(by the way, using mpc editor and reason, samples sound completely different also. almost always better when played by an mpc 1k or 3k for that matter...peeps say cuz i have a wack audio card but i think an rme multiface should have bettr converters than both devices)

2. dedicated buttons and numerical keypad speed up my workflow. i dont like menus....

3. build quality...especially the data control knob

4. the pads are softer and i get a better response wit em....mabe cuz i am used to it but the 1k feels too HARD

5. the quantize!!! ok on the 3k quantize screen there are the before after adjustments that i use on almost every beat i make. like a nudge feature for your samples......this omission is just outrageous to me. maybe i haven't figured something out yet but it is important to me.

6. flip up lcd....more important than you might think.

7. step edit is great on a 3k. very confusing and counterintuitive on the 1k.

BUT....
the 1k s better because....

1. SIZE....like a mac mini...take it anywhere and sample away.

2. CF card is better than zip anyday

3. it can resample. for ex. i can use reason as my sound module and resample any loops i have created back into the mpc and assign to pads. the mpc3k will not play when you are in record sample mode.

4. folders: mpc organizing is a mess. 1k supports folders

5. programs: 1k up to 20 progs at once. its cleaner and you can have a bass porgam with 4 samples to have 2 octaves so polyphony wont get used up too bad. 3k only gets 1 program period. that blows

6. more ram on the 1k

7. erase function is better on the 1k. you can choose many pads to erase at once. 3k you can't.

so.....to me, the mpc1k is more convenient if you use soft synths and need to resample, but when i get all my gear together, its mpc 3k all the way. outboard everything and a computer full of vstis lightpipe over to protools. the sound and workflow of a 3k jus suits my needs more....somethin bout the sound, just makes the track bang....peace yall
