All I want is a MiKo
Hey guys, pretty much my first post here. I couldn't exactly find the right place to post this, so dont get too mad if this is the wrong section. Also ran a search and didnt come across anything. ANYWAYS.

I was just wondering if its possible to get a hold of NeKo / MiKo sound packs or plugins or whatever without actually buying the keyboard itself? Just curious if they sold their plugins. I am not sure i need a neko or anything, i just wouldnt mind having the sounds. from a business perspective, id imagine open labs might not sell the packs seperately, but who knows.

if anyone has a site where i could buy the packs let me know.

the meko and neko house third party plug-ins the meko and the neko don't have a certain soundset... http://www.openlabs.com/
read about it on their website....
it a hardware keyboard that allows ppl to load up softsynths etc.... hardware/software hybrid... kinda thing

hmmm i was on their site and didnt see anything. must have missed it. thanks for the help

It is a fact that computer music drives modern music production. Nearly every kind of instrument and piece of audio gear has been recreated as a computer application or virtual instrument equaling or exceeding the performance of the original. Virtual instruments do not have to exist within the limitations of the analog or hardware world presenting almost limitless creative opportunities for musicians.

Along with the creative potential of computer music is the technical task-loading of getting the computer, multiple applications, and controllers to work together and actually make music – computer music is still supposed to be about the music, right? Some embrace the technical challenge, some endure it, and others just give up and end up with music technology museums in their closets.

MiKo is the latest addition to the Open Labs line of products. Built using PC-architecture, a 15” touch-screen, and the Windows OS, Miko is an entirely new class of portable music instrument. This Portable Media Workcenter was specifically designed for the electronic musician and today’s digital lifestyle.

MiKo’s optimized Windows OS natively supports virtually any music application or plug-in developed for a PC. From Pro Tools to Nuendo, Native Instruments to Spectrasonics, DJ to VJ, Miko does it all with ease.

The MiKo offers super mobility in a compact package. It’s perfect for working in a project studio of performing live – where creating beats, guitar and vocal multi-tracking, and DJ/VJ capabilities are as necessary as playing keyboard.

The MiKo’s assignable Master and DJ controllers elevate live performance to the stratosphere. For example, you can trigger Mp3’s in real time. Then grab audio waveforms via the touchscreen. To top things off, throw some real time drum, bass, and vocal lines down on top of your mix.

Back in the studio, kick-back and re-assign your MiKo’s controllers as a channel strip for Cubase, or task them to tweak your VST’s while you audition them by the dozen. Whatever moves you to create your music, MiKo will make it happen.

Need some help? Open Labs instruments are equipped with an Ethernet port allowing access to the Internet via a broadband connection. You can then log-in to Open Labs tech support where our online technicians can remotely view and diagnose any issue – right in your own studio.

We’ve included over 60 world-class virtual instruments and effects, over 1,000 presets, with unlimited capability for user presets.

Copy-pasted marketing speech aside, the bulk of what makes up their soundset comprises of cheap/freeware synths and romplers. They do have a few exclusive plugins on their systems, but a lot of them can be found elsewhere as well. Look up the list of what's included and hit the KvR database to look 'em up, for example...

Which sounds from it in particular are you wanting?

good answers kurshing and trusty. to be honest, like all total noobs like myself. we see videos of timbaland using a neko and think thats the only way to be good. after spending a half hour on this forum I realised all i need are the sounds that come with a neko if you want to get the same sounds some producers do. im guessing you shell out cash cause it has a cpu, with ram, and a touch screen, etc.

and @ krush. thats the real answer i was looking for. only thing is, i dont really know any of the packs or sounds or anything a neko comes with. But i will be using this site from now on. Thanks!

You've probably figured this out already, but just because you buy and download all of the sounds that come with the OpenLabs keyboards, won't necessarily give you all of Timbaland's arsenal. Since the Neko/Miko are just suped-up computers with midi controllers built-in, there's no telling what other VST's he is using.
