Are these good basic decks? I bought them in October of 2000, and I was wondering if these are good basic decks. I wanted a pair of Technics, but I didn't have enough money. I'm 14 and really into turntabling, and I would have asked this earlier but I just discovered this site about 10 minutes ago, so I'll just shut up now.

they are not the best for scratching, and you should have saved up for str-60's at least or higher. But seeing as that you already bought them, I guess its too late for that. The problem with them is that their torque is not high, it sort of drags on.......but they are scratchable, but not to full potential. So see what you can do with them for now and as you get good, upgrade.

I still have one TT-1910 which I think is non-existant now but is pretty much the same as the TT-1520 (I would actually like to know if this is true if anyone has any knowledge) and I don't think I've done too badly learning on them. I now have a vestax pdx a1s as well which is class but I'm really starting to get annoyed by the difference between the two now. I need another one but i think theyre discontinued now too :( next option is either the pdx a2s or the pdx 2000. Any preferences?

yes..the tt1910's were pretty much the same except they were purple.

TT-1910's

Hey I've got a pair of TT-1910's now and they are pretty good for mixing...
Scratching on the other hand is a totally different matter...

tell ya whats rubbish about my 1910's. The pitch fader is nowhere near centralised. Theres been a post on this before i think, but one of them if you move it about 3% down its in the equilibrium position again (ie moving it up or down from the centre speeds it up). I think the little hole at the top of the pitch fader is for adjusting this but I aint got a small enough screwdriver. Well I suppose one good thing is I actually have more than +10% of pitch adjust (although sometimes you just cant get the right pitch to mix coz its in the middle somewhere). rubbish, rubbish, rubbish :)

Yeah I also got the TT-1520, and it starts/stops pretty quickly but not quick enough for sctraching, it just doesn't get to speed fast enough. But I am going to use it for beatmatching. Another complaint is the pitch fader changes the pitch too fast

Like it jumps by 2% instead of one
(-10,-8,-6,-4,-2,0,2,4,6,8,10)

the spacing between each % is very small, so you have to be very carefull and use the pitch fader very slowly or people will notice the change.

Christ, you guys really made my day! I needed to hear something good about the 1520's but no one had it for me. BTW, Just how bad for scratching are they? what's the problem??? is it just the slipmat or.... what?

****, I meant to ask if they were any good for mixing an at... but this is the wrong forum anyway

i have a pair of 1520's and a DM1001X mixer and they work just fine for me.i can mix easliy and fast. i can scratch really good with them too.i know it doe not have a lot of torque but my hand has gotten used to pushing the record while im scratching to pick up exactly where it loeft off with the same speed. its something that your hand has to get used to. i have done all kinds of gigs with these with no problem. Most of the time, it is not what u have ,but how you use it. good luck mayne.
