I know some of you guys have gotten placements through "Twitter" A&Rs.
so i had a couple of questions in mind.

1. Did you pay the A&R? If yes what made you trust them?
2. Did you get paid (by the artist).
3. Did you manage to build a relationship with the artist?
4. Did you manage to build a relationship with the A&R?

1. No
2. you CAN get paid by the artist, but i dont see that happening via twitter.. you may get some credit though but *shrugs*
3. Always
4. Always

never pay a manager or A & R a fee to get your shit placed... ever.. they get paid from their respective jobs/Labels.. not from the producer

What is a 'Twitter' A&R as oppose to a traditional label or artist A&R?

basically these cats that are weedmen and runners in the studio that are connected to artists trying to make a pay day as middlemen, so they create these emails for producers to submit to them on twitter, when they hear a bunch they like, they talk about paying a certain fee to get on a mixtape or whatever

kinda like the 2011 Spliffinton Management (i wonder if that is still censored here)

some A & Rs are legit, but always do your research before you just wildly submit to people, because honestly a lot of these dudes are frauds

Really once and A&R approaches you, either twitter or in person etc., they are not gonna ask you to pay them to get your tracks heard by whomever their representing , if the artist likes what they hear they'll come to you and that how the A&R gets payed. You always wanna build that relationship with the artist as well as A&R cause that leads to more placement opportunities for you.

managers and A & R gets paid w/ publishing, not cash; right?

Ok that's what I figured thanks. I wouldn't give these types the title of A&R especially if they're looking to collect the best tracks they can find from multiple producers and seeing how many 10% fees they can possibly get. I call them 'Beat or Track Agents'. I'm referring to dudes that are on the back end money chase, not those charging a upfront fee to shop your music

going back about 2 years, i came across this person who claimed they could get beats to some mainstream artists such as jeremih, lloyd and some other artist. next thing i knew i would be sending this guy beats like every other day and at the end he offered me consultation(including how to get my beats to mainsream artist etc etc) for $20 i decided to give it a go but ended up really disappointed all he told me was to join sites such as soundclick, youtube etc :/

it all depends on whats negotiated out of their contract, some take a portion of pub, some take a portion of the advance, i mean some A&Rs state that they have to be included as writers or co-producers lol.. its really weird

and yea dont deal with beat agents like that, theyre not worth it

no i mean the contract between manager and a producer

and no A & R's just work for labels, they dont draft nothing lol, they just scout and develop talent for the artists they are put in charge of

Brian is a good dude over at atlantic, hes good people, we was just chopping it up the other day, he really listens to the records and gives feedback to those who need it
