I love the a-a-a-a-a-a-a Alchemist tag
On certain beats it sounds ****ing awesome (lol don't ask why)

There's this new song from Duck Sauce "Barbra Streisand" that ish is catchy as f*ck

1. Beat is catchy as hell (i love the sample they used)
2. It's easy to sing along

I was suprised DJ Premier showed up scratching

I think it's time for producers to step into the limelight 50/50...

The beat is the most important part of the song.... now.

People are not going to listen to a song if they don't like the beat...

Change it from "I worked with so and so" to "So and so worked with me"... YOU ARE THE REASON THE SONG IS CRACKIN'...

They pick BEATS! nobody picks lyrics (because they don't matter as much... now)

Tell me what's driving that G6 song... the people singing? ? ? you can substitute anybody for them.

Chris Stokes scooped up a 16 year old FP member (true story), we have to put an end to that... we're not "pieces of meat". (I laughed at myself... lol)

Write hooks for your songs too. Hell write hooks for songs you haven't even made. Put on the metronome and spit hooks and put the bpm in the name and save 'em when you make beats again, make beats to your hooks. Get co-writing credit and all kinds o ish.

The wording was a little weird, but this post contains truth!

yeah, I liked the Questlove bit

Yelawolf seemed kinda out of place tho, nonetheless a good look mainstream-wise

yo i actually just put a post on producer tags on my blog a little while ago. i forgot a couple from what i'm reading lol

if anyone reading the thread for the first time i put in links to the sounds in my post if you want to check it out:
ayesmusic.blogspot.com/2011/08/producer-signatures.html

But then again JR Rotem's J-J-J-J-J-R tag is dope! I think it comes down to whether or not the music is good because you're setting the trends on what's cool when a song becomes a hit. A lot of producers also have signature transitions. Like Drumma Boy's Rise synth (Just Blaze Bite!) and RedOne's awesome signature saxophone lick. And of course Luke/Benny's swoosh, (which I have). Holla atcha boy!

So u saying Just Blaze bitin or Drumma Boy?? Pretty sure Just Blaze had that first.

Tags are straight, but I don't think it's the most important thing to your production. I don't use tags, but I feel my music has a certain sound to it....so there really isn't a need. I guess I kind of use some of the same transitions, but it's not on purpose. But, everybody gotta do what's best for them.

I only have tags for when I put my stuff on the Internet. If I ever put out a relevant record, I wouldn't use tags at all. Maybe it's just me, but I feel that producer tags have gone into overkill lately. EVERY producer who gets on has one...and sometimes it's like...who gives a shit.

Jahlil Beats you're nice, but I really don't care that you produced this Meek Mill record to the point where I need it on the final version. Drumma Boy, you're good...but don't care.

Kanye's never had a producer tag. Neither has Premier. Neither has Pete Rock, Buckwild, Da Beatminerz, Jazzy Jeff, Rockwilder, The RZA, etc. But YOU KNOW when those guys are on the boards, so it's like the art speak for itself.

But if I had to pick my favorite tags:

1. "It's a Nitti beat." - Frank Nitti
2. "AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH....THAT'S RIGHT." -Lil Lody
3. Just Blaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaze
4. a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-al-al-alchemist

i think the simpler the tag the better. make it short as u can. for instance "vybes" tag works nice in all of his production. jr's tag is nice but wouldnt sound right on every track. and i dont recommend putting the tag in every 4 bars of your beat which alot of sc producers do.

Well a lot of SC producers do that because there are a lot of assholes out there who will download a tagged beat, find the parts that aren't tagged, and loop it together to make a "full" beat. You can never watermark your beats online too much.

That's how Snizzy's beat was stolen on Carter 4.

Now if you're actually putting together a beat tape for an artist, don't tag your beats like that.

Sometimes I feel like I don't need a tag, then something like what happened to tha Carter 4 producer happens. lol That's my fear, and why I'm hesitant to even put my stuff online. I will eventually, but I don't even know how I would tag my stuff yet.

@TEX Noiiice, swear you got some of the smoothest beats on FP, I *think* I hear your tag lol

I love my tag, I think it's unique and annoying enough to be kinda memorable lol. I only use the whole thing going in and out of the hook portions of my beats. During the verses, I'll alternate between the "Silent" and "NOIZE!" parts depending on the energy level of the track.

how do you make tags and where do you get the voice that are always on mixtapes?
