besides the 2 rack mount spaces of the 2500 and its 3x faster processor, what is the difference between the Proteus 2500 and the Proteus 2000? does the 2000 have the same amount of sounds and tweakable synth options as the 2500? i dont want to pay extra for the 2500 if there isn't much difference between the sounds and tweakable options of the 2000.

please help
nick

The P2500 is 4 rack spaces. The sound ROM is exactly the same from what I understand. The p2500 does have control over parameters that the P2000 doesn't have - may be worth the extra $100. Both have 3 extra ROM slots for expansion.

so the 2000 has all the sounds of the 2500, but the sounds can only be used as is...no modifying parameters?

The sound ROMS are the same - same sounds and presets.

There are 16 modifications using the knobs on a P2500/P2000:

Tone
Presence
Shape
Image
Attack
Decay
Movement
Rate
Dynamic 1
Dynamic 2
FX A
FX B

The P2000 has only 4 knobs to control the 16 paramters, the P2500 has 16 knobs - more control in the P2500.

I don't know all details but the sound engine is definitely the same.

thanks for the help everybody.

very useful information.
so the 2000 has 4 knobs to control the same number of parameters as the 2500's 16 knobs. is there a button or something that temporarily assigns a knob to a certain parameter?--that is how i picture this working. if this is how it works then i will probably buy the 2000, no sense in spending extra money on something that runs a bit faster (i am on a limited budget).

...

sounds like if you already have an FX processor youre better off to go with the 2000 and save a few bucks.

ummm i don't have any synth or "fx processor"-not sure what that is, im new to anything besides cakewalk pro audio. I just use cakewalk to make and sequence my music and want the proteus to beef up my sounds, and definately drums.
i think i'll go with the 200, maybe i'll find it used for less than $500 on ebay or something.

thanks for the help everybody

I´d go for the 2500 immediately !!
If those 100 bucks more or so saves me from going through eternal menu´s, I´d be happy to pay it. And 4 or 16 controllers... I love tweakfun.
Also, don´t underestimate the effect of internal effects as opposed to external fx !! You can always add external fx, but you´re better off if you have both. And onboard fx will most likely change your sound more radically than external fx.

arg...i hate clicking through the same menus over and over every time i start a program too....lol.

i'm going to the local guitar center, i think ill have to play around with the 2500 more, then i'll probably be more pumped to buy it anyway....i think you've sold me! (you aren't working for ensoniq are you?)

thanks:D

the soundsets are kind of the same, but the 2000 comes with a composer soundset, of around 1000 sounds. the 2500 doesnt, but the presets are the same. my understanding is that the rom isnt all that great, its just mass quantity... i'd take the 2500 and save for a month (or get on payments at american musical supply) the expansion roms... especially the vintage keys and world!!! thaos are real nice...

sounds and roms are exactly the same

the 2500 has a 16 track sequencer

It has usb for transfering sequence file to and fro the computer

Basically the main differance is the amount of knobs you have.

The synth engine is the same

For around the same price you can get an mp7 + pop collection expansion rom and you would have the exact same thing-minus a few minor things (faster processor-usb) this would be a better choice because the mp7 comes with pads, its not rack, and you get the mophatt rom + pop rom (exact rom in the proteous 2500 & 2000) plus the mp7 has the same number of knobs.

The only real advantage of the 2500 is the speed, usb, more buttons (not needed because emu interface is good as hell anyways) and it is a rack if you need racks but the mp7 is also rack mountable.
