hey, i just got the vestax pcv 275 for my birthday and the kill switches on the right channel do not work. can someone tell me what might be wrong or what i should do? also, there are all these knobs on the mixer that say "effect". what does this mean?

the buttons that say 'effect' is send and return controls for the effects loop. the switches above the channel faders that say 'effect' are there for you to choose between a pre- or post-fader effect. you have to insert an effects unit into the loop in order for you to work them.

as for the kills not working - bring it back to where you got it and have them fix it, it's faulty and should be covered by warranty.

what is an effects unit? can u give me a link so i can see an example? and do these units use up the third channel just as a third turntable would? btw, what kinda effects are we talking about.

my mommy came home with the pvc 275......she talked to the guy at the store and got a deal, she payed the same price she woulda paid for the 06 and walked away with a 450 dollar mixer  i'm very happy w/ it, the fader is smooth as can be and if i want fx stuff i can use it, but i'm trying to figure out what kinda fx stuff i can get and what do these fx units do. so feel free to give me some info.

Ya good find. Just thought you liked to scratch and dont know if this is the BEST mixer for those applications. But still better than what you had.
Glad you are happy with it.:D

:victory:

i know maybe its not a 'scratch' mixer by name but the fader is smooth as a *****. i blew on it and in one breath i blew it all the way across the track. its actually the best mixer for me cuz i do a little mixing of house and trance as well as scratching. anyone else know anything about the fx unit deal? cheers

PHISH..read the manual that came with it yo, if you didnt already.
It might give you a little information.

it was a floor model, no manual came. but the guy told my mom i could download the manual, does anyone know where i could download a vestax manual, i already tried and came up emptyhanded.

The fundamental difference between a scratch mixer and one made specifically for mixing is the curve on the crossfader not being sharp on the latter. Not to say that you couldn't scratch on the one you have, just letting you know... There are many other differences (hamster switches, up fader curve, etc.) but those you won't really need until you at least have the basics down.

I couldn't find a manual for you but here's something for now:
http://www.vestax.com/sales_manuals/VSM1-PCV-275.pdf

You might be able to find an FP member willing to scan his manual if nothing else comes through, though I doubt that you'll really need a manual for it because you can always ask questions about features you don't understand.

an effects unit is a box that twists the sound. examples of effects would be delay/echo, flanging and phasing (makes the sound go 'wooooooosh'), filters etc etc etc.
examples of such boxes are the Korg Kaoss Pad, the Pioneer EFX-500 and the Alesis AirFX - you can find pics and specifications at pretty much any retailer's website.

happy birthday, I dunno whose birthday 'tis, but I say congrats anyway. and if you're in The Crown tonight, have a drink on me.

('s gonna be interesting to see whether anybody notices the Mick Jones connection or not)
