A lot of big time producers are selling real cheap right now, I know from some credible sources in LA that RZA beats go for as low as 5Gs !

I think what 50 cent did for the first 2 albums was real smart.....he said that he went through thousands of beats without knowing who produced them and picked the ones he liked...

I would always pick an uknown producer over a $100,000 one. Its just better for the business....we get saturated with known producers thatve exhausted every type of sound out there.

I agree with you on that. I think thats the mistake he made on the third album, he didnt go with his gut instincts like he did on the first 2 albums. Its real obvious too, flow was so forced, didnt sound natural.

I feel when the album is produced by bunch of random producers it doesnt sound very good, doesnt really connect as an album. I like albums produced by limited produers maybe 1-3.

DMX spent almost half a million on just beats for his last album, and what happened? not a dam thing.

I would pick an unknown produer anyday.

Well it's already been reported that timbo has gone as high as 500k.

The problem with the politics is, people are so concerned with the producer's pocket. You have to understand that a 'superproducer' is one that will pretty much guarantee you a track that will push your album. Therefore, to the artists and more importantly the labels, these checks they cut (from the loaf known as the "recording budget" ) are viewed as investments.

So let's say Timb does a cut for an artist. He DOES charge this "crazy" 500k track. Sure the label is gonna say "whoa that's kind of alot"....but if they check Timb's track record, they'll say "hey, it's worth it." So this artist's new single is a hit (of course I'm referring to an artist who is high enough to warrant such a budget), and his/her album goes on to sell multiplatinum.

Therefore, the label sees this as a worthwhile return on their investment. If you look at it like that rather than "omg that's such a ridiculous amt" then you'd see it through the mechanics of the industry, rather than "all that for one beat??"

And if you were offered 500k for a track, you'd take it too

Too much

I heard Timbaland charge $250,000 for a track

50 is LYING. How else do Eminem beats keep gettin on his albums???

Im not even joking either. I can find internet "producers" all day with better **** then eminem who would kill their own mothers to produce a track for 50.

**** you could make 3 whole albums alone off just FP with all hotter beats than most of Eminem's tracks.

im sellin my beats for a mil each yeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhh boyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy.....

na but i know timbaland charges like 600,000.00 for a beat if your a major artist and like real cheap if your just coming up......so i believe a major producer could get a mil or more for a really good beat...

which song?

Whatever it is, it either went to one of the following during the heyday of the music industry: Dr Dre, The Neptunes, Timbaland, or Scott Storch. My guess is either The Neptunes or Dre. Timbaland got super hot right around when the industry started declining and recording budgets started reducing.

Nowadays I'm almost positive every one of these producers can't command even half of what they were getting at their peak price, especially if a label is backing the artist's project. They can get this if it's an indie artist shelling out that kind of money.
