I used FL Studio for a couple years before my computer crashed and when I got a new one I decided to try Live instead because of all the great things I've heard about it. Indeed it is great, and there are certain things about it that I like more than FL. But after a year of playing with it I couldn't get the thought out of my head "I miss fruity loops!" I like the plugins (effects mostly) better in FL, the piano roll and all the little tricks you can do in it, the pattern arrangements, the mixer, the "feel" of it, and it all just makes more sense to me. The only thing I really preferred with Ableton is the ease of tweaking audio clips. Most of it feels very unnatural to me. It doesn't suit my workflow. So I finally caved in and got the new FL Studio (which is my favorite, out of 9, 10 and 11 because of the new plugins that are pretty nice, like Harmor) and after just one week with my old baby back I made one of the best songs I've ever made.
Perhaps I'm biased because I started out with FL Studio (if I don't count the short time with LMMS) but for me I just love every little thing about FL Studio. The way I see it is like this: If you prefer to do a lot of experimentation on the fly, Live is right for you. If you prefer to really take your time and get down to the nitty gritty details, FL Studio supports that better, for me at least.
They are both equally capable, but I'm never going to switch DAWs again!
