kids who dont already kno wat he is addressing wont care, all they will hear is a catchy melody which is why they will remember the words. To the young niggas in the hood they already kno wat it is, especially if you growin up and your uncles come over to use your kitchen to cook up a zone. Everything is not all grassy and greeny in the world sh!t is real, so lil niggas that grow up to be hood niggas will already kno wat he talkin abut and lil niggas that dont kno probably never will. Jus like that song Strawberry Letter 23 nobody knew wat the hell he was talkin bout and people still dont.

So just because certain kids already know whats goin on, that means its ok to reinforce these things? It's ok to steadily pound these ideas into their mind? I did a study earlier this year on BET. Something that I found while researching it was a study that said that minority children tend to see television as almsot a parental figure. It said that images and ideas shown on tv will significantly affect the kids attitudes and behavior when they become adults.... So just because these "lil niggas" don't live where the "grass is green" means that we shouldn't care at all about preserving their innocence? So we should just raise 'em to be "lil niggas" so they can raise their kids to be "lil niggas" and then wonder why we're still living in poverty and our prisons are full? This isn't any kind of coded song like the one you mentioned..this ain't "white lines" or something that actually takes a minute or two to interpret....This is yung joc. even the kids that do live where the "grass is green" can more than likely understand this simple ass sh*t.

Kids knowing whats going on is one thing....celebrating it is another. This song is not painting a picture of street life (a la Curtis Mayfield, BIG etc.)....this is celebrating it.....trivializing it....making it seem ok.

But I guess since kids are in already live in the hood...we should continue to teach 'em keep it real huh?......real fu*kin dumb

I dont belive in any sort of statistics at all, i grew up on the southside in raliegh, on new bern to be exact. I remember the summer shootouts at the store at night, i remember seein niggas put in work, and yea it did affect me BY MY OWN CHOICE i did wat i wanted to do because i wanted to, and at the end of the day its all about your mindset if you wanna make it out off a bad situation you will cause u purpose in your heart to succeed and u wont settle for less. And with all of that said i dont think a young joc song will influence any youth unless they are already on that type of path.

tv do have remote and parent control

I got what you guys saying, but hear me out:
watch XTinas "Candy man".
no, its not about THAT "candy".
THAT candy

(___X___) <=====8 :D

she sings about a man that can make her "cherry pop" and at same time touches her crotch.

wtf? its not subliminal, its about SEX.

whats the difference? there is none.

drugs ARE bad, but is it so much better to tell 14yrs old girls to find a soldier who can make their "cherries pop"?? I dunno.

the difference is that Joc's song has kids singing the chorus. hence it appeals more to young children. of course some kids already might be going down that path but it doesn't mean that there's no hope for 'em. packaging a drug dealing song with "kid friendly" stuff will only reinforce that. it's like some of those anti-cigarette ads where they prove how this "adult" stuff really only appeals to kids. i'm still young but i'm old enough to not be influenced by a song but kids who have parents who might work all the time might look up to the guys on the tv and if they live in "the hood" the constant exposure to drug songs and this song with that same content but aimed more a kids might make kids more inclined to be interesting in doing and selling drugs.

I hate how everytime someone makes a topic, a HUGE arguement enfolds and everything gets heated.

SHUT THE **** UP! Jesus, like you give a **** about how it will affect kids.....

dog...if you can look at the state of the black community and not see anything that you would like to see change in your lifetime, then thats great...Sorry to say, but I do give a fu*k about the effect that certain things have on kids. Aint nobody acting high and mighty, but nothing is going to change without holding people accountable for their actions. When I hear sh*tty songs on the radio... from laffy taffy to chicken noodle soup to that Ay bay bay sh*t...I usually just brush them off and say that they weren't made for me. I can say the same about this song, buts thats exactly the problem.....

if yall still see nothing wrong here then thats fine....I'm out, peace

I must say I'm impressed. The video was CRAZY!! FINALLY something different!

everone is born with knowing right vs wrong if they are weak in their mind to do something negative because of something they see on tv so be it,if they sell and die from it , its not joc fault its the dumb ass kid fault,if they sell and get out of it because they know they can do something better in they life.

not evryone in the "hood" looks up to to rappers
they would look to some one they see everyday and can give a pound[5] [dap] to .

So uh...

I'm glad Zoe changed his verse for the video. The original was really bad.

that was some hot shi-t hahaa....wasdnt expecting much when i clicked on the link but that was dope......

Well..I was watchin him on 106th and park yesterday and they asked him why he decided to make a song about a candy shop??..he said that before he was rappin he used to "hustle" everything from cd's to womens clothing..kinda like tyresse in baby boy even though he didnt mention drugs i wouldnt be surprised if he sold it there too

^^^^^

yea because....

"When asked about the song's meaning, Joc explained "We’re not selling drugs; we just sell any and everything out the coffee shop: from cars, to clothes, to shoes, to jewelry – I mean, you can get your hair cut at the coffee shop."

and

"the similarities between "Coffee Shop" and "Cafe Surreal" from Danny!'s 2006 album Charm sparked a minor controversy shortly after the single was released. "Cafe Surreal" also incorporates the use of a coffeehouse as an extended metaphor in a hip-hop song, though it does not refer to the selling and distribution of cocaine; nonetheless, it was rumored that Yung Joc may have lifted the concept for "Coffee Shop" from "Cafe Surreal".

i got those from wikipedia but it does sound pretty accurate to why everyone is talking so negative about the song.
i mean why be so quick to judge the only person that knows what the song is mainly about is the artist until he addresses the meaning to the public.
