I was wondering if anyone knew how to mimic the way an mpc swing sounds in fruity loops...the fruity loops swing sucks...thanks

I'd like to know this also but maybe I haven't messed with the program enough to utilize the swing properly.

Try changing the ppqn in fl to say 24ppqn instead of the default 96ppqn.
It will give a slightly differant feel to your swing.
Also the swing in the piano roll is more versital than the one on the interface.

How do I change the ppqn? I dont see that option...and wheres the swing in piano roll...Are u talking about the "quick quantize" option?

I havent used fl since 4.0 aha,so it's all on memory.
There's got to be someone who can tell you exactly how since this place is covered with FL users.
Sorry I could'nt be more specific. :(

naw use the "quantize" feature...its more in-depth...i think "quick quantize" only places everything to hit on time according to the time signature & doesnt add much "swing" to the track...

i make my tracks "swing" naturally by slightly moving certain things over & changing the velocity, trying to mimic a real drummer. ill post up a drum track that displays my swing techniques later on so you guys can peep.

Man...i truly believe this is what fruity loops lacks...it sucks when it comes to this. Thats why the drum patterns sound like ish.

its not the program, its the user

hmmm its not the program its the user...wow useful information...but that doesnt tell me nothing...ive been making smoking bangers on fruity loops what i asked was if u could do a mpc swing or something similar...

i wasnt responding to you, but if you want the mpc swing, use the quantize option in the piano roll

use the Quantize Preset called "16_MPC1.fsc" or "16_MPC2.fsc"

had to bring this thread back...was searching for "16_MPC1.fsc"...

anyone know where i can get this?

Man they got an mpc swing quantization kit on the net already

Some guy uploaded these swing templates awhile ago, I forgot who though. Here they are in different percentages.

Drops this in Imageline/FL Studio X/Data/Patches/Scores/Quantization. They work pretty well.

I don't use FL anymore either, but from memory, I know it's the same screen where you enable/assign midi controllers and choose what "velocity" will control.

Turning swing to about 6-15% in the step sequencer is more than enough to get the same vibe you'd get from an MPC around 51-55%

Then again, I don't believe in swing anyway. Cats should really learn not to count on randomization to add realism to their sound. It's like a race care driver needing to use cruise control on the final lap. Or a gourmet chef making spagetti out of a Chef Boy R D can.

Just my 2 cents.

Honestly, if u get ur latency right, u can play without quantize and get real swing by actually playin with the feel that u want. It's easier for me to play like that than to try and fool quantize and swing settings to get things to feel right. I can play 16th note sixtuplets with no problem and won't have to go back and quantize anything or adjust any swing to get the feel i'm lookin for. Get ur sht right and it'll be alot easier to get ur tracks groovin, especially when layin drums over samples, way easier to do it freehand than to have to fiddle with swing settings and all that. Atleast for me it is.

I would so much like to write something like: "oh, look at you and how professional you got by leaving FL.. cute.." But I know you actually really like(d) it (FL that is) :D

The PPQ setting can be changed in the OPTIONS-> PROJECT GENERAL SETTINGS btw. ;)

I honestly left it for the total opposite reason than most who are misinformed. I went to Reason for it's limitations. FL was overwhelming me. I had too many VSTis, samples, endless ammounts of everything kinda slowed down my workflow.

I'm still a big advocate. That program is amazing.

I treat my Software as if it was hardware. FL Studio is like having a multitrack recorder, MPC, and a million keyboards at your disposal(with sampler vsts it's like having a few Live instruments too). A studio like that can quickly become cluttered. lol.

Reason(IMO, mind you I don't keep tons of Refills, just the Sonic Reality Collection)is a Workstation Keyboard with Sampler capabilities.
